The Payroll and Accounting Assistant is a full-time position responsible for payroll processing and cost entry duties in the New Orleans office of a large law firm. Training will be provided.
Primary Duties:
- Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data.
- Verify new hire information provided by the Human Resources Department.
- Update payroll records to reflect changes in tax exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, job titles, and department or division transfers.
- Maintain payroll operations by following established policies and procedures and reporting needed changes.
- Collect, edit, and adjust time clock punches.
- Process semi-monthly payroll.
- Submit FSA information to healthcare providers.
- Maintain vacation and sick leave accruals.
- Balance and import the semi-monthly payroll journal entry.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries.
- Compile and distribute internal management reports from the payroll system.
- Maintain accounting-related spreadsheets.
- Import or enter costs into the firm’s accounting system for billing to firm clients.
- Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the Payroll Manager or other Accounting Managers
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or prior payroll experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong data entry skills.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of employee compensation and personal information.
- Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong numerical aptitude and ability to learn new processes quickly.
