Responsibilities

  • →Provide advanced technical support and escalation assistance to the IT Manager and IT team.
  • →Provide technical assistance during critical incidents, planned maintenance, technology implementations, disaster recovery activities, and other after-hours events when required.
  • →Coordinate with vendors and third-party technology providers on assigned technical support issues.
  • →Identify technical risks, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement and communicate them to the IT Manager.
  • →Perform other duties as assigned.

The Senior IT Engineer is responsible for advanced administration, engineering, troubleshooting, implementation, maintenance, and support of K2’s information technology environment. The role works across infrastructure, networks, systems, cloud services, endpoints, identity and access management, cybersecurity controls, connectivity, and other enterprise technologies in accordance with standards established by the IT Director and IT Manager.

The Senior IT Engineer serves as a senior technical resource, independently resolving complex technical issues and providing technical expertise for projects, system changes, upgrades, migrations, deployments, and technology initiatives. The position may lead technical assignments, provide guidance to the IT Engineer, and coordinate technical activities during projects, incidents, and maintenance activities, without direct personnel- management authority. The role also evaluates technology solutions and provides recommendations based on business needs, security, reliability, performance, supportability, cost, and operational risk.

The Senior IT Engineer maintains reliable, secure, documented, and supportable technology systems across K2’s corporate offices, field operations, and active jobsites. The position maintains appropriate administrative access to perform assigned responsibilities and escalates matters involving significant security risk, policy exceptions, material business impact, major architectural changes, budget implications, or authority outside its delegated responsibilities. The role does not establish IT strategy, company-wide policy, departmental budgets, personnel policy, or enterprise-level risk acceptance.

  • Administer, troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain K2’s infrastructure, networks, servers, cloud services, endpoints, connectivity, and enterprise systems.
  • Resolve complex technical issues and identify performance, reliability, capacity, configuration, lifecycle, and supportability concerns.
  • Plan and implement system upgrades, migrations, integrations, replacements, and other infrastructure changes.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and ensure systems remain secure, supportable, and aligned with established standards.
  • Implement and maintain established cybersecurity, identity, authentication, access, endpoint protection, patching, and security controls.
  • Investigate and respond to security alerts, vulnerabilities, suspicious activity, and technical security incidents.
  • Support access reviews, vulnerability remediation, security assessments, and incident containment activities.
  • Escalate significant security risks, incidents, control deficiencies, and policy exceptions appropriately.
  • Serve as the senior technical escalation resource for complex IT incidents and recurring technical problems.
  • Lead or support critical incident response, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and post-incident improvements.
  • Provide clear technical assessments, status updates, and recommendations to the IT Manager.
  • Maintain accurate incident and problem-management documentation.
  • Plan and execute technical work for approved IT projects, deployments, migrations, upgrades, replacements, and infrastructure changes.
  • Develop technical implementation, testing, migration, rollback, and recovery plans as required.
  • Lead or coordinate assigned technical work and provide technical guidance to the IT Engineer without assuming personnel-management authority.
  • Identify technical dependencies, risks, resource requirements, and implementation issues and ensure completed projects transition effectively into operations.
  • Monitor systems and infrastructure for performance, availability, capacity, security, backup, and reliability issues.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot backup and recovery technologies and participate in restoration testing, disaster recovery, and business continuity activities.
  • Identify single points of failure, recovery deficiencies, capacity limitations, and other resilience risks.
  • Recommend and implement improvements that increase availability, recoverability, redundancy, security, and performance.
  • Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, cloud technologies, operating systems, endpoint management, identity and access management, cybersecurity, and enterprise technology environments.
  • Advanced troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills, with the ability to work independently on complex technical assignments and recognize when escalation is required.
  • Ability to lead technical work, develop implementation and recovery plans, and evaluate technical solutions based on security, reliability, supportability, cost, and operational impact.
  • Strong documentation, organization, communication, and customer-service skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical priorities, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment within established standards and delegated authority.

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent education, training, certifications, and hands-on experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive IT experience with significant experience in infrastructure, systems, networking, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, endpoint management, or IT operations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise or multi-location technology environments and troubleshooting complex infrastructure, systems, network, endpoint, identity, cloud, or security issues.
  • Demonstrated experience with technology implementations, migrations, upgrades, technical projects, cybersecurity controls, identity and access management, and related IT operational processes.
  • Relevant professional certifications and experience with backup/recovery, disaster recovery, business continuity, technical documentation, or mentoring IT personnel are preferred.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in an office environment and periodically provide technical support at active jobsites and field locations.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and safely lift, carry, move, or assist with installation of typical IT equipment when required.
  • Ability to travel between K2 offices, jobsites, vendors, and other locations as needed.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours when required for critical incidents, planned maintenance, disaster recovery activities, technology implementations, or other business needs.
  • Ability to safely work in active jobsite environments, including wearing appropriate PPE, working in extreme heat, and moving over uneven terrain.
