As a Journeyperson Truck & Transport Mechanic with Prince George Transit, you'll play a critical role in keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and ready for service. Working on a diverse fleet of transit vehicles, you'll perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and troubleshooting to ensure our buses operate safely and efficiently for the thousands of passengers who rely on them every day.

From diagnosing electrical and mechanical issues to responding to occasional road calls, you'll be a key member of the team responsible for maintaining the vehicles that keep Prince George moving. This role is ideal for a skilled mechanic who enjoys problem-solving, takes pride in quality workmanship, and understands the important role that safe and reliable public transportation plays in the community.

This position works a compressed schedule consisting of four (4) 10-hour shifts per week.

Available shifts include:

Morning Shift: 5:00 AM start
Afternoon Shift: 2:30 PM start

Training is typically scheduled on the morning shift from Tuesday to Friday; however, training schedules may be adjusted to accommodate operational requirements.

Responsibilities

→Perform preventative maintenance on transit buses and fleet vehicles.
→Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic systems.
→Complete scheduled maintenance inspections and repairs.
→Perform Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) inspections, if qualified.
→Troubleshoot and repair engine, transmission, brake, steering, suspension, HVAC, and electrical system issues.
→Complete and maintain accurate maintenance records and repair documentation.
→Respond to occasional road calls and vehicle breakdowns when required.
→Work closely with Operations and Maintenance teams to ensure fleet availability and service reliability.
→Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
→Follow all company safety procedures and applicable regulations.

Valid Journeyperson Truck & Transport Mechanic Certification.
Ability to diagnose and repair heavy-duty commercial vehicles independently.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Experience working with diagnostic software's
Experience working with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Experience working with diesel engines, electrical systems, brakes, steering, suspension, and hydraulic systems.
Minimum Class 5 Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement.
Ability to work safely in a fast-paced maintenance environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

The following qualifications and experience are considered assets, but are not required:

CVIP Certification/License
Class 1 or Class 2 Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement
Experience working on transit buses, motorcoaches, or fleet vehicles
Experience working in a unionized environments
Experience mentoring or supporting apprentices
Strong understanding of commercial vehicle safety and compliance requirements
