Responsibilities

  • Oversight responsibilities of student employees: Assist with the general supervision of the AFC and outdoor fields. Being able to step in and assist with or take responsibility for tasks when student help is not available, and tasks need to be completed.
  • Perform and/or oversee the performance of indoor and outdoor setups and teardowns for physical education classes, intramural and intercollegiate athletics, community services, rentals, special events, such as graduation and other College events.
  • Assist in operating equipment necessary to maintain exterior playing fields (i.e., line, drag and rake fields).
  • Assist with custodial duties as appropriate to include dry/wet mopping, cleaning equipment, and cleaning facilities in general as needed – may include gyms, classrooms, locker rooms, restrooms. 
  • Report exercise equipment issues.
  • Ensure a safe, comfortable facility; report any unusual activity or circumstances to Campus Police; report any safety hazards or any defective conditions of buildings/equipment to the Director of Athletics.
  • Maintain and assist with organizing, upkeep, and distribution of AFC equipment including uniforms, travel gear, recreational equipment, etc.

  • High school diploma required; some post-high school vocational training in building maintenance trades is preferred.
  • Two years’ work experience in a school or fitness facility with supervisory experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education/experience providing knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.
  • Knowledge of athletics and athletic equipment; fitness center operations; safety methods and procedures.
  • Skills in coordinating work activities of others; following oral and written instructions; maintaining records and preparing routine reports.
  • Abilities to clean and care for equipment; learn and properly apply departmental practices and procedures; lift and move heavy objects; operate standard office equipment; perform routine and detailed tasks in an accurate and efficient manner; work independently; maintain effective interpersonal working.
  • Light - Sit, walk and stand sometimes, lift 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • This is a part-time position for the Athletic/Fitness Center. The position will be re-evaluated at the end of the semester. 
  • This position is grade 6A on the salary staff schedule.
  • The schedule requires flexibility and availability to work evenings and weekends (Saturdays).
  • The ideal candidate will be able to maintain a flexible work schedule to fill in for other shifts, as needed.
  • The position entails working outdoors as needed, including during inclement weather.
