About You

You’re an experienced accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership and getting into the details. You’re comfortable preparing accounting work yourself, reviewing someone else’s work and explaining what needs to change.

You investigate differences, understand what the numbers mean and follow issues through to resolution. You know how to balance accuracy, deadlines and materiality, and you keep your work clear enough for others to review and maintain.

You also enjoy helping junior team members develop. You set clear expectations, provide practical feedback and recognize when to make a decision independently or bring an issue forward.

About the Role

Reporting to the Controller, you will own key parts of the monthly close, manage routine tax and compliance filings, and oversee assigned accounting activities. You will combine hands-on preparation with review and coaching responsibilities, helping the team deliver accurate work and meet deadlines.

This role offers the opportunity to take on broader responsibility as the business and finance team grow, including financial reporting, process improvements and support for budgeting and forecasting.

What You’ll Do

Own assigned areas of the monthly and annual close. Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations and supporting schedules covering areas such as cash, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, payroll, intercompany balances and foreign currency transactions.
Support accurate revenue and deferred revenue accounting. Work with the Controller and billing team to reconcile billing activity, revenue schedules and the general ledger, investigating exceptions and resolving discrepancies.
Keep close deliverables moving. Coordinate assigned tasks and deadlines, follow up on outstanding items and flag issues early with a clear explanation and proposed next steps.
Manage routine filings. Prepare and reconcile GST/HST, provincial and state sales tax and other recurring returns and remittances within your assigned scope.
Review and oversee accounting work. Review reconciliations, journal entries and supporting schedules prepared by junior team members, providing clear feedback and ensuring issues are resolved.
Coach and develop the team. Help colleagues strengthen their accounting knowledge, judgment and ownership. Maintain practical documentation and backup coverage for recurring responsibilities.
Prepare useful financial reporting. Analyze account movements and explain significant variances, unusual transactions and unresolved items clearly.
Support year-end and external advisors. Prepare working papers and supporting documentation, respond to questions and coordinate outstanding requests.
Improve processes and controls. Simplify recurring work, address the causes of errors and use NetSuite, spreadsheets, AI and automation where they improve accuracy or reduce effort, while maintaining appropriate review and data protection.
Support business growth. Help establish accounting processes for new activities and billing arrangements, and contribute to cash forecasting, budgeting and other analysis as needed.

What You’ll Bring

A CPA designation.
At least seven years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial hands-on responsibility for month-end close and financial reporting.
Experience using AI tools to improve accounting workflows, reduce manual work and support analysis, with sound judgment in validating outputs and protecting confidential information.
Experience reviewing other accountants’ work and providing coaching, ideally with at least two years in a supervisory or team-lead capacity.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and practical experience with balance sheet reconciliations, accrual accounting and financial statement preparation.
Experience preparing Canadian and US sales tax returns and managing recurring filing deadlines.
Confidence working in an ERP and investigating how transactions flow through to financial reporting. NetSuite experience is strongly preferred.
Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, with the ability to build clear, reliable working papers and analyze large transaction datasets.
Strong organization, follow-through and communication skills, including the ability to manage competing deadlines and work independently.

Additional Assets

Experience in SaaS, subscription billing or another business with recurring revenue.
Familiarity with NetSuite ARM or SuiteBilling.
Experience with multiple entities, currencies or Canadian and U.S. operations.
Exposure to U.S. sales tax compliance, payment processor reconciliations or acquisition integration.

Expected salary range, Ontario based: $100,000 - $120,000 + other benefits.
