IBCLC Lactation Consultant - Pasadena, TX

As a Lactation Consultant, also known as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), you will be a trusted source of encouragement, education, and practical support for potential and current breastfeeding women. Your compassionate guidance can help parents build confidence, overcome challenges, and reach their feeding goals during an important stage of their healthcare journey.

You will partner closely with nurses, providers, and other members of the healthcare team to provide evidence-based breastfeeding education and family-centered care. In this role, you will bring your clinical knowledge and passion for supporting families while honoring each patient’s values, culture, spiritual beliefs, and individual circumstances.

• Support parents in initiating and maintaining lactation through personalized education, counseling, and practical guidance.
• Help families understand breastfeeding techniques, infant milk transfer, breast pumps, milk storage, and the transition back to work.
• Strengthen community healthcare by helping patients access knowledgeable, respectful lactation support in a clinic setting.
• Collaborate with nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to address lactation concerns and coordinate care.
• Share your expertise through breastfeeding classes, health fairs, conferences, and staff education as workload permits and when appropriate.
• Contribute to continuous improvement activities and the quality of care provided to breastfeeding women and their infants.

• →Assess, educate, support, and counsel potential and current breastfeeding women to initiate and maintain lactation.
• →Educate patients on how to correctly breastfeed their baby.
• →Educate patients on the benefits of breastfeeding versus bottle feeding.
• →Demonstrate various breastfeeding techniques.
• →Advise patients on correct breastfeeding and latching techniques.
• →Assist patients with alleviating sore breasts due to breastfeeding.
• →Assist mothers transitioning back to work by teaching them how to maintain milk supplies.
• →Advise patients on breast pumps and proper breast milk storage.
• →Advise healthcare providers on lactation problems experienced by patients.
• →Plan and lead breastfeeding classes for expecting women.
• →Support and educate nursing staff and providers in evidence-based breastfeeding practices.
• →Consult with staff regarding resources, equipment, and supplies utilized in the care of breastfeeding women.
• →Coordinate care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• →Evaluate breastfeeding oral motor mechanics of infants and milk transfer, making appropriate recommendations.
• →Document all patient visits in Electronic Medical Records.
• →Initiate referrals for support services as needed.
• →Provide expertise at health fairs, conferences, and similar events as workload permits and is appropriate.
• →Respect the diversity of each individual's values, culture, spiritual beliefs, and other socio-economic issues when addressing patient needs.
• →Participate in Performance Improvement activities.
• →Provide reports as needed.
• →Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or in process of obtaining certification.

• Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar work environment, a plus if within an outpatient clinic

• Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian preferred.

• Excellent teaching, verbal & written communication skills essential.
• Understanding of diverse cultural, physical, emotional, and psychological response to birthing, lactation and parenting.

• Knowledge and skilled in Microsoft programs preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is highly preferred.
