Join the LEGO® Group’s Prototypes team within the Creative Play Lab for a Paid Internship at our Head Quarters in Billund, Denmark! 

Are you driven by an unquenchable passion for discovering new play opportunities through early-stage ideation, concept development, and prototyping? If so, you could be one of the talented students joining our Prototypes department this year, where creativity and craft go hand in hand! 

Start date: February 2027 

Length: 5 months (until end of June 2027) with possibilities for summer extension

As an intern in our Prototypes department, you’ll join teams dedicated to letting loose their making skills to help teams problem solve and explore new play experiences through rapid prototyping. You’ll unleash your imagination across a range of innovation missions and production tasks, collaborating cross-functionally to develop concepts into playable prototypes.

We look for interns who bring something genuinely different to our innovation hub, adding fresh cultural insight, creative energy, and new ways of thinking. Your time with us will span personal curiosity projects, team capability-building initiatives, and innovation Missions. Every day is different and you’ll learn directly from a world‑class multidisciplinary team as you build your craft, embracing ambiguity as you discover new play experiences. 

Meet the Prototypes team: 

This team of craftspeople includes everyone from machinists to carpenters who deploy their expertise in workshop tools, production machines, printing and 'making’ to turn the inventors’ crazy ideas from a sketch or digital concept into a high-quality real-world physical prototype. They ask the inventors ‘have you thought of making it this way?’ to spark ideas that innovate the design. You’ll need a thinking through making mindset and a can-do attitude to join this team as you learn to use some state-of-the-art new machines to scan, design, mill, machine, 3D-print and paint incredible physical prototypes to turn ideas from a simple sketch into reality. 

Internship Eligibility: 

To qualify for this internship opportunity, you must meet all of the following criteria:  

(1) You are over the age of 18 

(2) You will be enrolled in higher education as a ‘student’ for the full duration of the internship period 

(3) You are currently due to graduate at some point after the end of the internship period 

(4) You will not be requesting a delayed graduation date just to qualify for this internship 

(5) This internship will contribute quantitatively towards your course credit 

(6) This internship is a compulsory part of your education 

(7) You are available to undertake this internship contract starting from the stated start date 

(8) You are available to work full time for the full period up until the stated end date 

(9) You are able to work on site in Billund, Denmark for this period 

We also encourage interns to have experience with at least some of the following: 

• Machine Workshop tools e.g. lathe, drills etc. 

• Woodwork 

• Sketching 

• Painting 

• Sculpture 

• Graphic Design 

• LEGO® Model Building 

• Textiles 

• 3D CAD programs  

• Videography / Editing 

What we’re looking for: 

Curiosity: Our teams thrive on a playful curiosity in all they do. You need to be always asking questions, seeking the reason “why”, digging for answers even when it’s hard and never stop wondering “what if...” 

Bravery: Our organisation is a huge place full of different people and different perspectives. You need to be comfortable meeting new people every day, speaking up when you disagree, receiving feedback, facing the unknowns of innovation head on and forging yourself a path when things aren’t well defined. 

Focus: Our workload and priorities are always changing. You need to be happy shifting priorities fast, focusing on a high priority task one week then focusing on developing your own independent curiosities the next.  

Maker Mindset: Our Prototypes team members are constantly transforming ideas into physical, tangible prototypes. You need to be a physical maker first and foremost, keen to get your hands on machinery and wield tools to forge the teams’ scrappy conceptual ideas into a physical reality at a range of different levels of fidelity. 

Responsibilities: 

We want you to bring all your energy, enthusiasm and experiences to work every day so we can achieve amazing things together while you learn along the way. Some of your typical responsibilities could include... 

• Learning from machining experts in our machine workshop 

• Crafting prototypes from different briefs 

• Assembling and finishing prototypes into their final form for play testing 

• Brainstorming with creative teams around how to turn a concept into a manufacturable physical prototype

We have many internships available in Creative Play Lab, each supporting a different team with their own focus area.
