JOB PURPOSE 

As a pipe crew supervisor, you will be responsible for, but not limited to, all activities associated with the preparation and execution of day to day work related to the excavation of water and sewer infrastructure, and the efficient installation or re-installation of a variety of underground pipes, fittings and associated structures; including water, sanitary sewer, and storm water collection systems.

 

You will work under the guidance of a project manager and the general superintendent and lead your crew to complete the project work as set out in project documents.  Your skilled team made up of Heavy Equipment operators, pipelayers, grades and layout and general labour personnel, will follow your direction and guidance to ensure adherence to the specifications and requirements of the project.  You are comfortable transitioning between different role responsibilities and are exceptional at determining priorities and acting accordingly.  You can manage budgets, timelines and client expectations with ease.

Required Experience:

 

  • Experience supervising/leading a crew of 6 or more people in a Foreperson/Supervisor role
  • At least 5 years of Experience in civil construction as a pipelayer
  • 7 years experience in heavy civil construction industry
  • Experience with efficient installation of a variety of pipes related to civic construction including storm, water, and sanitary, both main and service pipe.
  • Experience with survey and layout of pipe, following specifications or blueprints, and coordinating layout with all facets of project
  • Ability to motivate and work as a team to complete projects in a safe and timely manner
  • Knowledge of safe hoisting and rigging procedures
  • Possess working knowledge of the latest building codes, standards, methods, and industry safety standards
  • Current, valid tickets/certifications for: WHMIS, First Aid level 1 or 2, Confined Space, Ground Disturbance, and Construction Safety Training
  • Physically fit and able to lift large weights and climb in and out of trenches, manholes, etc. (40 lbs +)
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Aptitude to problem solve and think “outside the box” to come up with creative solutions
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced changing environment
  • Excellent command of the English language both written and verbal
  • Highly organized and motivated to carry out a variety of duties (cleanup, assist civil crew, etc.)
  • Experience recording daily activities, production and all site movements on daily tracking forms.
  • Experience in growing team members through performance reviews and constructive feedback.

  • Strong conflict resolution experience.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity.
  • Excellent client and community-facing communication skills
  • Able to mentor and train all crew members to ensure they have the required capability to fulfill their duties and responsibilities.
