Senior Mechanical Engineer (Plumbing & Fire Protection – Design)

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer (Plumbing & Fire Protection – Design) Location: Qatar Department: MEP / Engineering Experience: 10–12 years 1. Purpose of the Role To lead the design, coordination, and delivery of plumbing and fire protection systems for construction projects, ensuring efficient, compliant, and high-quality engineering solutions aligned with project requirements and international standards. 2. Key Responsibilities A. Plumbing System Design Lead design of domestic water supply, drainage, sewage, storm water, and irrigation systems. Perform hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, and equipment selection (pumps, tanks, heaters, etc.). Prepare design layouts, schematics, and detailed drawings. B. Fire Protection System Design Design firefighting systems including sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire hose reels, and fire pumps. Perform hydraulic calculations and system sizing as per NFPA standards. Prepare detailed design drawings and specifications for fire protection systems. C. Design Coordination Coordinate with architectural, structural, and other MEP disciplines. Ensure proper integration of plumbing and firefighting systems within building design. Identify and resolve design clashes using BIM tools. D. Codes & Compliance Ensure compliance with Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS), NFPA, and local authority regulations. Prepare and review design submissions for authority approvals. Liaise with civil defense and relevant authorities when required. E. Technical Review Review and approve shop drawings, material submittal, and method statements. Respond to RFIs and provide technical clarifications. Participate in design reviews and value engineering initiatives. F. Construction Support Provide technical support during the construction phase. Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with approved design. Support testing & commissioning of plumbing and firefighting systems. Requirements Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering UPDA/MMUP Certification (mandatory / preferred as per company requirement) 10–12 years of experience in plumbing & fire protection design within construction projects Strong experience in consultancy or contractor design environment Technical Skills Expertise in plumbing and firefighting system design Strong knowledge of NFPA codes, IPC/UPC, and local regulations Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM tools Experience with hydraulic calculation software (e.g., Elite, Pipe Flow, etc.)
