Adult Social Worker – Learning Disabilities

Our client based in Southampton is seeking an experienced and skilled Adult Social Worker to join their Learning Disabilities and Neurodiversity Team in Southampton. This role requires a confident practitioner with strong legal literacy, excellent assessment and recording skills, and the ability to manage complex and high-risk situations within a busy adult social care setting.

What will your responsibilities be?
In this role, you will:
- Undertaking Care Act 2014 assessments and reviews in line with statutory responsibilities.
- Leading on Section 42 Safeguarding Enquiries, ensuring robust, timely and proportionate responses.
- Completing Mental Capacity Assessments (MCA) with strong evidence-based practice and confidently leading Best Interest decisions.
- Developing strengths-based care and support plans focused on promoting independence and reducing long-term care needs.
- Managing a dedicated caseload of adults with learning disabilities and neurodiverse conditions, including those with complex needs.
- Conducting lone working home visits and engaging effectively with service users, families, and carers.
- Working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary framework including health professionals, providers, and partner agencies.
- Maintaining accurate, timely, and high-quality case records in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
- Responding calmly and effectively to high-risk and high-demand situations.
Requirements
~1 min read- MA, BA, BSc in Social Work, Diploma in Social Work, or CQSW
- Must be registered with Social Work England
- Minimum 2 years post-qualified experience, including completion of ASYE
- Demonstrable experience working with learning disabilities and/or neurodiverse individuals
- Strong understanding of the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005
- Experience in safeguarding, Best Interest decisions, and statutory duties
- Excellent assessment, analytical, and evidence-based decision-making skills
- Strong time management and organisational abilities
- High standard of written recording and documentation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to undertake lone working visits confidently
- Willingness to be office-based at least one day per week
- Full UK driving licence and access to a car is desirable
- Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
- Duration: 3-month initial contract
- Working Pattern: Hybrid working with a requirement to attend the office a minimum of one day per week
