Phlebotomist

We are hiring experienced Phlebotomists to support the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston. This role provides blood‑collection services for inpatient units and the outpatient draw clinic in a fast‑paced, Veteran‑focused environment.

  Perform venipuncture and capillary collections for 40–80 patients daily, including difficult draws.

  Collect blood cultures, urine specimens, and support glucose tolerance testing.

  Verify patients using two identifiers and follow all VA/Joint Commission standards.

  Label, transport, and process specimens; complete LIS accessioning.

  Communicate with clinical staff regarding orders, add‑ons, and results.

  Follow all safety, infection control, and HIPAA/privacy requirements.

  Maintain professionalism, customer service, and accurate documentation.

• 2+ years phlebotomy experience (within the last 3 years).

• Phlebotomy Certification and BLS required.

• Ability to stand/walk for long periods and lift 25+ lbs.

• Strong communication skills and comfort working with diverse patient populations.

• Must complete VA background check, fingerprinting, and mandatory training.

• Hospital or high‑volume clinical experience.

• Prior VA or federal healthcare experience.
