Newham offers excellent opportunities for Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs) to become excellent practitioners. We are one of the UK’s most diverse local authorities with vibrant communities of many nationalities, ethnicities, languages, faiths, and customs. We are looking for dedicated and ambitious social workers who are keen to make a difference.

We view the ASYE as an investment in the service we provide to our community. The Newham ASYE programme is a comprehensive introduction to the profession for NQSWs, with monthly dedicated training, on-the-job targeted learning, and reflective space. Participants will be supported by their line-manager and dedicated ASYE assessor, as well as the Workforce and Practice Development Team. Our emphasis is on learning and reflection so that NQSWs finish their ASYE with us, having gained a wealth of experience and feeling confident in their role and their identity as a social worker.

In Newham, the ASYE marks the beginning of a structured career progression pathway, offering clear routes into management and opportunities to further develop professional practice. This includes the option to train as a Practice Educator, supporting and developing the next generation of social workers. We also offer a comprehensive training and development programme aligned to our ambitious and well-supported career pathway.
