The London Borough of Newham is committed to delivering exceptional services to our community. We are seeking an experienced and proactive HR Assistant to join our dynamic team. 

This is a key role in delivering high quality and consistent advice, guidance and solutions to people managers and employees across all aspects of HR policy and procedure, in line with legislative parameters. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to routine enquiries from managers and employees, providing the appropriate resolution, e.g., signposting to online information and guidance, response, or referral to the wider Advice and Consultancy team (where a case is more complex, or specialist advice is needed). 

  • Support the development and maintenance of HR toolkits and other HR administration (e.g., guidance, flow charts, template letters) to enable managers to carry out their people management responsibilities.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Experience in an HR role, preferably within a local government or public sector environment.
  • Knowledge: An understanding of HR processes, policies, and best practices. 
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Organisational Skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to identifying issues and developing practical solutions.
