General Function:

Under the general supervision of the Electrical Supervisor, is responsible for repairing and maintaining all electrical equipment & systems for all facilities and buildings, as well as airfield lighting and airfield systems. Additionally, is responsible for assisting in maintenance of all other facilities and building structures at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) and Bowman Field (LOU).

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reads blueprints and schematics and determines methods, materials and equipment needs to complete various assignments.

• Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles or replaces defective electrical equipment such as plugs switches, outlets, ballasts, motors, access control systems, fire alarm systems, and appliances using hand tools, test equipment and service manuals.

• Repairs and maintains jet bridges, and other support equipment, conveyors, and baggage carousels.

• Provides high voltage expertise in both preventive and corrective maintenance capacities to include 13KA switchgear, 480V, and lower distribution systems and cablings.

• Performs new electrical installation as well as modifications to existing systems.

• Performs all aspects of building electrical maintenance, lighting, and switch gear maintenance at SDF and LOU.

• Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs airfield circuits.

• Complete various maintenance and repair tasks in various trades to include carpentry, painting, electrical work, plumbing, HVAC, and welding.

• Responsible for efficiently carrying out work orders issued until completion of the workflow.

• Performs assigned day-to-day repairs, emergency, and preventive maintenance.

• Operates snow removal equipment and participates in snow removal operations.

• This position is required to participate in on call/standby rotation.

• Performs other assignments and duties as directed.

Additional Duties:

• Provides general preventive maintenance and repair of existing buildings owned by the Airport Authority, including service and maintenance of mechanical and overhead doors, conveyors, windows, etc. Assists with painting and repairs of building interiors and exteriors. Assist with carpentry and concrete repairs. Assists with drywall hanging, finishing, and texturing. Checks roofs for leaks and makes necessary repairs. Assists with installation of tile (ceiling, floor, and ceramic) and carpet. Repairs or assembles furniture, changes lightbulbs, installs decorations.

Employment Qualifications:

• Must possess a valid Driver’s License and maintain appropriate Authority escort and driving privileges.

• Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, rough terrain and have safe work and driving habits.

• Must be detailed oriented with strong organizational and basic analytical skills.

• Ability to multi-task/work with multiple managers and to act with integrity and professionalism.

• Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, while exercising sound judgement.

• Disciplined work ethic: Must occasionally work extended hours and is subject to emergency call-backs.

• Must be willing to work second shift if needed.

• Basic Microsoft Office skills. Will be required to use computer and/or IPAD for work order system, email, and training.

• Ability to effectively communicate over a two-way radio, email, phone, and person-to-person.

• Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding.

• Ability to write routine reports, work orders, and correspondence and respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisor.

• Ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages, areas, and cost per square foot.

• Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations.

• Ability to works at varying heights off/on ladders, bucket truck, aerial lift, fixtures, or structures and operate a forklift.

• May work in inclement weather and have ability to navigate all areas where work is performed and/or assigned.

• Must pass criminal history background check and maintain eligibility for a security access badge in accordance with the Airport Security Plan.

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED

• Must possess a Journeymen’s Electrical License

• Must possess thorough knowledge of the National Electric Code.

• A minimum of 5 years’ electrical experience in Airport, Commercial, or Industrial setting.

The airport Electrician will work as part of a team to maintain Airport buildings and equipment to ensure the safety and comfort of Airport employees and visitors. Assists Airport staff and the public as needed. Duties may vary according to job assignment.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

This position is performed in both an office environment and field work with exposure to dangerous tools. Which also involves exposure to noise, vibrations, chemical, and other contaminants, moving mechanical hazards, and extremes of temperature and weather conditions. Must have sufficient visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses; sufficient auditory ability, with or without audio logical devices; able to tolerate exposure to noise levels up to 120 decibels; capable of being on one’s feet for extended periods of time. Additional physical requirements include stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 80 lbs. or more. Must be able to distinguish colors as required to discern light-gun signals from the Air Traffic Control Tower. This class specification should not be interpreted as all inclusive.
