Principal Member of Technical Staff, LCM Advanced Packaging & Manufacturing Engineer
Quick Summary
Lumotive is pioneering the era of programmable optics—where light is controlled as intelligently and flexibly as software.
Lumotive is seeking a Principal Member of Technical Staff based in Taiwan with deep expertise in New Product Introduction (NPI) and production management for semiconductor advanced packaging and test of optical devices. This is an outward-facing role that requires regular travel to key suppliers across Taiwan and China.
You will serve as a critical link between design and production, executing best practices with vendors across wafer fab, OSAT, LCOS assembly, optical sub-assembly, and test, including support for Lumotive’s wafer fab partner as needed. In addition to technical leadership, this role requires strong project ownership, supplier coordination, and disciplined execution to drive schedules, milestones, and issue resolution across a distributed supply base. The role reports to the Director, Semiconductor Module Manufacturing in the Redmond, Washington office.
- Supplier Engagement & Project Management
- Own technical engagement and production support with OSATs, LCOS assembly, optical sub-assembly and test vendors, and wafer fab partners
- Drive supplier project plans, schedules, deliverables, and risk mitigation to ensure on-time execution
- Travel 50% of time to supplier sites across Taiwan and China to ensure alignment, troubleshoot issues, and remove execution barriers
- Support customer fulfillment while helping define and implement long-term volume ramp strategy
- Coordinate cross-functional escalation and decision-making between internal teams and suppliers to keep NPI and production activities on track
- NPI & Technical Execution
- Lead NPI assembly process development for LCM-based optical modules, transitioning from low-volume builds to scalable production
- Define, develop, and qualify advanced packaging architectures (e.g., flip-chip, wafer-level assembly, fan-out, CoC using ACF, TCB, LAB)
- Collect, consolidate, and communicate Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback from suppliers
- Serve as the on-site production test interface between Taiwan suppliers and Lumotive’s in-house test team; provide Level 1 troubleshooting support, triage hardware/software interactions, and escalate issues with clear documentation
- Guide suppliers and the Lumotive test team on manufacturing test best practices for a production environment, including test coverage strategy, yield tracking, and test station readiness criteria
- Provide inspection and failure analysis (FA) feedback to drive supplier corrective actions for prototype and production builds
- Establish build readiness criteria and support qualification activities for new processes, tooling, and suppliers
- Documentation, Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to design reviews and Technical Data Package creation
- Apply configuration management and quality best practices internally and with suppliers for change management, RMA, SCAR, CAPPA, and related workflows
- Develop and maintain assembly instructions, inspection plans, SOPs, and manufacturing documentation
- Drive yield improvement, process optimization, and cost reduction across the supply chain
- Monitor supplier readiness, process capability, and production risk to support successful product ramps
- Own production test environments; provide Level 1 troubleshooting, support hardware/software interactions at the test station, and act as an effective on-site liaison with Lumotive’s test engineering team
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field (MS/PhD or equivalent practical experience strongly preferred)
- 12+ years of industry experience, including 10+ years in supplier-facing manufacturing, process, quality, or NPI engineering roles
- Fluency in Mandarin and English is required
- Proven experience in DFM and process design for opto-mechanical and opto-electronic systems
- Strong background in semiconductor packaging, LCOS, or MEMS assembly, with a focus on optical subsystems
- Experience working with semiconductor and advanced packaging suppliers in Taiwan
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex project schedules and drive supplier execution
- Experience with wafer bonding, dicing, AOI, wire bonding, optical alignment, and related assembly processes
- Skilled in drawing review, process documentation, technical data packages, and production audits
- Experience leading supplier qualification, process readiness reviews, and production ramp activities
- Ability to drive technical issue resolution across design, test, quality, and operations teams
- Experience with PLM, MES, and SPC systems for managing production data and supplier quality is required
- Experience with tools such as Arena (PLM), SolidWorks, Tableau, and JMP
