Data Engineer - Group Business Intelligence

Luxaviation Group is looking for a qualified candidate to join our Group Business Intelligence team in the role of Data Engineer, based at our headquarter offices in Luxembourg.

As a Data Engineer, you will contribute to the development of the Group's data and analytics capabilities, enabling data-driven decision-making across the business. Working at the intersection of data engineering, business intelligence, and emerging AI technologies, you will help transform complex data into trusted insights that support operational and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and manage ETL/ELT processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into data warehouses
• Build, schedule and monitor data pipelines in code — primarily Python, orchestrated with Apache Airflow — ensuring reliable and timely delivery of data
• Contribute to the migration of existing tool-based ETL jobs to code-based, version-controlled pipelines
• Design, develop and manage BI models in a Datawarehouse (star schemas, snowflakes)
• Prepare data for analysis, ensuring it is organized and accessible
• Structure and document data models, metrics and metadata so they are consumable by AI-assisted analytics (semantic models, natural-language querying, Copilot-style features in our BI platform)
• Use AI tools in day-to-day engineering work — code and query generation, documentation, test creation, troubleshooting — while reviewing and validating all output before it reaches production
• Interact with Business Users to identify, document and implement business rules
• Implement data quality checks and monitoring solutions to ensure data integrity and accuracy
• Optimize database performance, including query tuning and indexing
• Work closely with cross functional teams to support data visualization and reporting needs
• Provide support and user training for company reporting tools, including guidance on the effective and responsible use of AI features within them
• Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, in particular the evolving role of AI in data engineering and BI, to continuously improve our practices

Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in data engineering, designing ETL, data warehouse solutions
• Strong understanding of ETL/ELT principles and patterns: full and incremental loads, change data capture, dependency and scheduling design, error handling
• Strong understanding of data modelling and data warehousing
• Good knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
• Strong proficiency in SQL
• Proficiency in Python for data engineering, automation and scripting

Desirable

• Experience with workflow orchestration tools, in particular Apache Airflow
• Familiarity with AI capabilities embedded in BI platforms (e.g., Microsoft Copilot in Power BI, natural-language Q&A) and what makes a data model work well with them
• Experience with cloud tools
• Knowledge of additional programming languages such as Java
• Any data related certification or training program is considered an advantage
• Business Aviation experience is an advantage
• Practical experience using AI assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) in a development workflow
