With our active support against poverty and our vision to create unity and a prosperity consciousness in Lincoln, we are constantly re-evaluating our programs to ensure the current needs of the community are being met.

The Van Driver supports the Malone Center’s mission by providing safe, reliable, and respectful transportation. The regular schedule is 2:00–4:00 p.m. for the Out of School Program, transporting students from their schools to the Malone Center. Additional hours may be required including field trips in and outside of Lincoln and other Malone Center events that require transportation for youth, community members, staff, or other authorized passengers. 


Essential Job Functions

  • Champion the Malone Center mission, vision, and values in all internal and external interactions.
  • Safely transport kindergarten through eighth-grade students from designated schools to the Malone Center during the regular 2:00–4:00 p.m. schedule Monday thru Friday.
  • Provide safe transportation for occasional field trips in and outside of Lincoln.
  • Drive for other Malone Center programs and general events as scheduled, including transporting community members, Malone staff, and other authorized passengers.
  • Complete required vehicle checkout and return documentation, including driver name, vehicle and key numbers, time out and in, mileage, and fuel level.
  • Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report safety concerns, damage, maintenance needs, or incidents.
  • Follow all traffic laws, vehicle capacity limits, seat-belt requirements, designated routes, and Malone Center transportation and safety procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision, professional boundaries, and respectful interactions with youth and adult passengers.
  • Confirm passengers enter and exit safely and complete required attendance or passenger checks, including a final inspection of the vehicle after each trip.
  • Keep the vehicle clean, orderly, secure, and ready for the next driver.
  • Communicate promptly with the supervisor regarding delays, route changes, emergencies, passenger concerns, or schedule conflicts.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect participant and organizational information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • This position may require regular evening and weekend availability to support program operations, trainings, events, meetings, and organizational needs.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Experience safely operating 10-15 passenger vans or similar vehicles preferred.
  • Experience working with children, families, community members, or diverse populations preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to meet Malone Center vehicle insurance eligibility requirements.
  • Successful completion of required background checks and clearances before employment.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and the ability to follow written routes and schedules.
  • Dependability, punctuality, sound judgment, and attention to passenger safety.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with children, families, community members, staff, and supervisors.
  • Ability to remain calm, follow emergency procedures, and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and accurate transportation records.
  • Availability from 2:00–4:00 p.m. on scheduled Out of School Program days and flexibility for occasional field trips, evenings, weekends, or Malone Center events.
  • Willingness to complete required driver, safety, and organizational trainings.

Pay

Part-time position at $15.26 per hour.
