We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead Samico Manufacturing, LLC, a well-established heavy fabrication, welding, and equipment rebuild operation serving the mining industry. This position is responsible for overall site leadership, including safety, customer service, production delivery, quality, financial performance, workforce development, and operational excellence.
The facility has a long history of supporting mining customers through the manufacture, repair, and rebuilding of mobile equipment and components. The General Manager will provide strategic and hands-on leadership while ensuring customer commitments, operational continuity, and continued business growth.
This role requires a strong operational leader who can balance customer expectations, workforce leadership, safety compliance, financial accountability, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities

- →Establish and enforce safe work practices, risk assessments, incident investigations, corrective actions, and safety training.
- →Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, environmental, and industry requirements.
- →Maintain effective controls for welding operations, hot work, electrical work, cranes and rigging, mobile equipment, lockout/tagout, confined spaces, and personal protective equipment.
- →Ensure required permits, inspections, certifications, and training records remain current.
- Oversee production scheduling and execution of new equipment builds, rebuilds, repairs, and service projects.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, engineering support, and outside services to meet customer commitments.
- Monitor backlog, work-in-process, production flow, asset utilization, throughput, and schedule performance.
- Communicate directly with customers regarding priorities, project status, risks, scope changes, and delivery expectations.
- Implement and maintain disciplined work-order, project tracking, and reporting processes.
- Ensure products and repairs meet quality standards and customer requirements.
- Maintain control of drawings, revisions, bills of materials, technical documentation, inspections, and certifications.
- Support quality assurance programs, welding qualifications, testing requirements, calibration programs, and root-cause investigations.
- Ensure facilities, equipment, tooling, vehicles, and production assets are maintained and capable of supporting operational demands.
- Identify and prioritize capital improvement opportunities.
- Own facility financial performance, including budgets, profitability, cost control, inventory management, purchasing, and operational forecasting.
- Ensure accurate job costing and project-level tracking of labor, materials, subcontracted services, and equipment utilization.
- Review operating results and develop corrective actions to improve productivity and profitability.
- Maintain effective business controls, data accuracy, and reporting processes.
- Develop a high-performing leadership team with clear expectations and accountability.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, develop, and retain skilled trades, supervisors, planners, technicians, and administrative staff.
- Promote employee engagement, communication, training, and career development.
- Establish succession planning and cross-training programs to support business continuity.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support strategic initiatives that improve operational efficiency, capacity, customer service, and profitability.
- Evaluate new business opportunities based on available resources, technical capabilities, risk, and financial return.
- Partner with executive leadership to implement operational and growth objectives.
- Drive process improvements and standardization efforts across the operation.
Requirements
~1 min readBachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in manufacturing, heavy industrial operations, fabrication, mining, equipment repair, maintenance, or a related industry.
- Proven success managing a facility, business unit, division, or major operational function.
- Demonstrated accountability for safety, quality, delivery performance, financial results, workforce leadership, and customer satisfaction.
- Strong knowledge of production planning, purchasing, inventory management, job costing, quality systems, and industrial operations.
- Experience leading through organizational change, operational improvement, and business growth initiatives.
- Excellent communication, customer relationship management, and problem-solving skills.
This role requires regular presence within active manufacturing, fabrication, maintenance, and customer environments. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required. The General Manager must be available outside normal business hours when urgent operational, safety, customer, or business continuity matters arise.
Periodic travel may be required for customer visits, training, supplier meetings, and business-related activities.
