Who We Are
The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits.
About the Role
Student workers will support Senior and Elder’s Support Workers in planning activities, engaging with Elders socially. Student Support workers will assist with the well-being of Elders and seniors in their daily lives. They help people living with different physical disabilities and mental health needs to live their lives more independently and support them to reach their potential by providing both social and emotional support. Student workers will engage in activities, lead activities, and help with supervision. Cleaning, sanitizing, organizing and supporting permanent staff wherever needed will also be important elements of the job.
The anticipated length of this program is July 2, 2026 - August 28, 2026
Student Workers will perform some or all of the following duties:
- Planning activities and engaging with Elders socially
- Assist with the well-being of Elders and seniors in their daily lives
- Support those living with different physical disabilities and mental health both socially and emotionally
- Engage in activities, lead activities, and help with supervision
- Clean, sanitize, organize, and support permanent staff wherever needed
- General customer and client assistance.
This position is funded through the Government of Canada - Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible, applicants must meet the eligibility requirements established by the program.
Canada Summer Jobs project eligibility:
- be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of their summer job
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of the summer job
