Who You Are
You are a reliable and detail-oriented individual who takes pride in maintaining clean, safe, and organized work environments. You understand the importance of cleanliness in supporting day-to-day operations and creating a professional space for staff, programs, and services within Mikisew Technical Services (MTS) in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta.
In this part-time, permanent role (20 hours per week), you are comfortable working independently, managing your time effectively, and completing tasks with consistency and care. You follow established procedures, including health and safety guidelines, and use cleaning supplies and equipment responsibly.
You bring a strong work ethic, a willingness to support team needs, and a respectful approach to the workplace. Your attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards contribute to a well-run environment that supports the Organization’s daily operations.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean and maintain office and shop areas, including floors, windows, desks, and common areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust to maintain a clean environment
- Empty garbage and recycling bins and dispose of waste appropriately
- Clean and sanitize washrooms, ensuring supplies are replenished as needed
- Ensure overall cleanliness and presentation of all assigned work areas
- Report maintenance issues or repair needs to the supervisor in a timely manner
- Safely use, handle, and store cleaning supplies and equipment
- Follow workplace health and safety policies and procedures at all times
- Assist with basic setup or organizational tasks as required
- Complete assigned tasks within scheduled hours with consistency and reliability
- Perform other related duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience as a custodian, janitor, or in a similar role is preferred
- Knowledge of cleaning equipment and products is considered an asset
- Understanding of safe handling and disposal of cleaning materials and chemicals
- High school diploma is an asset but not required
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong attention to detail and reliability
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good physical condition and ability to perform repetitive tasks (lifting, standing, bending)
- Commitment to workplace safety and cleanliness standards
- Respect for confidentiality and professionalism in the workplace
- Knowledge of First Nations communities and culture is an asset
- Successful Completion of Criminal Record Check
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work is performed in indoor office and shop environments
- May require standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods
- Exposure to cleaning products and materials
- Work schedule is part-time and may be adjusted based on operational needs
- Requires consistent attendance and reliability
