Main Purpose of Job

A Correctional Maintenance Officer Manager is the managerial level of maintenance work in a correctional facility which involves the security, custody and supervision of adult inmates who perform maintenance work. Employees in this class directly supervise Correctional Maintenance Officer Supervisors and indirectly supervise Correctional Maintenance Officers.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Supervises Correctional Maintenance Officer Supervisors;\r\nManages a staff of Correctional Maintenance Officers engaged in maintenance or repair tasks in trades such as electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, metal work, plastering, painting, masonry, locksmithing, motor vehicle mechanics, stationary engineering, and groundskeeping;\r\n\r\nPrepares periodic employee evaluation reports;\r\nMonitors the work of inmate workers and trains them in the proper and safe performance of maintenance tasks;\r\nManages the implementation of the preventative maintenance program at the institution;\r\nInspects work performed by outside contractors and prepares reports on findings;\r\nPrepares specifications for the requisition of equipment, tools, parts and supplies;\r\nManages the control and inventory of equipment, tools, parts and supplies;\r\nMaintains fuel consumption records and prepares energy efficiency reports;\r\nManages the operation and maintenance of central air conditioning plants and related auxiliaries;\r\nMay adjust, maintain and make minor repairs to refrigeration and cooling equipment and to other modern electronically operated control devices;\r\nMay operate and maintain coal, gas, or oil-fueled boilers;\r\nMay conduct maintenance staff meetings;\r\nMay act as the principal assistant to a Correctional Maintenance Services Manager;\r\nMay manage a segment of a regionalized maintenance program;\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:�� Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.\r\nExperience: Two years of experience involving the supervision of employees engaged in stationary engineering, maintenance or construction trades. \r\nNotes: \r\n1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209, Annotated Code of Maryland. \r\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional institutional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at a rate of two years of military experience for the required experience.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants�who possess the following preferred qualification(s).�Include clear and specific information in the work experience section your application regarding�your qualifications.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Experience in working with a maintenance work order system.\r\n Experience with implementing maintenance programs; including but not limited to, the development of maintenance schedules, cost estimates, procedure compliance, and administering a maintenance work order.\r\n\r\n\r\n

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to current permanent employees working for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) only.\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n2.�Some positions in this classification may require employees to acquire the appropriate Maryland driver’s license to operate motor vehicles for the transportation of inmates or supplies.\r\n3.�Some positions in this classification may require employees to possess a valid Maryland 1st Grade Stationary Engineer license to operate, maintain and clean�high-pressure boilers and equipment.� \r\n3. Employees who have not already done so must complete and successfully pass the Entrance Level Correctional Training Course required for the Maryland Correctional Training Commission certificate during the probationary period \r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Selection standards for Correctional Officer certification are established by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following: \r\nU.S. Citizenship \r\nMust be at least 21 years of age \r\nA completed background investigation \r\nOral interview \r\nPhysical examination. \r\n2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, must provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. \r\n3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. \r\n
