POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to provide the full range of Social Work services to incarcerated individuals housed in a correctional facility within the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. This position also provides administrative and clinical supervision to social worker I and II working within the institution as well as providing field supervision for social work student interns from various schools of social work.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Maintains and completes monthly reports and statistics.\r\n Participate in institutional, regional, and divisional staff\r\n meetings as required.�\r\n Serves on special task forces and work groups as assigned.\r\n Assists with student internship program as assigned.\r\n Coordinates programming with other activities in the facility\r\n and serves as liaison to institutional psychology/mental health services.\r\n Directly supervises subordinate staff and recommends personnel\r\n actions.\r\n Completes periodic evaluations of staff.\r\n Assigns and reviews work of subordinate staff/student interns.\r\n Identifies staff/student intern training needs.\r\n Provides individual services: Counseling & information,\r\n Domestic Violence screenings, Geriatric Assessments, etc.\r\n Provides clinical case management services & develops\r\n comprehensive aftercare plans for eligible inmates.\r\n Facilitates or co-facilitates cog/behavior groups\r\n Serves as a member of interdisciplinary teams for special\r\n management issues.\r\n Completes social histories on inmates involved in the level\r\n system or institutional programming.\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications and license requirements to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.\r\nEducation: Determined by the State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers\r\nExperience: Four years of experience providing clinical and therapeutic services through the application of the principles, methods and procedures of professional social work to clients requiring rehabilitative counseling or forensic social work services, including eighteen months of experience completing assessments, formulating diagnostic impressions, treating mental disorders and other conditions or providing psychotherapy as a certified social worker-clinical.\r\nNotes:\r\n1. A doctoral degree in social work from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of experience.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Social Work classifications or Social Work specialty codes in the Social Science, Psychology or Welfare fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification must have a license as a Certified Social Worker-Clinical issued by the Maryland Board of\r\nSocial Work Examiners.\r\n\r\n\r\n2.\r\nEmployees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the\r\noperation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required\r\nto possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The\r\nideal candidate must be fluent in spoken and written English. The ideal\r\ncandidate must effectively and respectfully communicate with diverse\r\npopulations, providing services to individuals with different beliefs,\r\nbehaviors, and interpersonal styles in confinement or community settings.\r\nProfessional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or any other\r\nlanguage is a plus.\r\n�\r\n1.\r\nEmployees are required to meet mandatory standards for continuing education as\r\ndetermined by the hiring department. Employees who fail to obtain the required\r\ncontinuing education credits shall be subject to disciplinary action including\r\ndemotion, suspension or dismissal.\r\n2.\r\nEmployees must complete an approved training program in group counseling\r\ntechniques.\r\n3.\r\nEmployees may be required to complete the Level I Counseling course of the\r\nMaryland AIDS Professional Education Center.\r\n4.\r\nEmployees must qualify for and successfully complete the Entry Level\r\nTraining Academy operated by the Police and Correctional Training Commissions.\r\n5. Employees are required to complete the Correctional First Line Supervisors\r\nTraining within one year of appointment.\r\n
