POSITION DUTIES

\r\n\r\nThe main purpose of\r\nthis position is to manage the daily operations of the Warrant Apprehension\r\nUnit. These duties are carried out with full police/law enforcement powers as\r\nbestowed by Maryland State law for individuals completing training as a police\r\nofficer in the State of Maryland, as provided for by the Maryland Police and\r\nCorrectional Training Commission.�\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Supervises Warrant Apprehension\r\n Unit Detective staff by planning, coordinating and evaluating the work of\r\n Warrant Apprehension Unit. Detectives and support staff;� ��\r\n Reviews all warrant\r\n service activity at 30, 60 and 90 day intervals to evaluate assigned employee\r\n efforts and to determine, whether efforts to locate the offenders are adequate\r\n and should continue.�\r\n Assign the Personnel\r\n Protection Unit, PPU, vulnerability assessments for threats against DPSCS\r\n personnel and protect them in situations where their safety is at risk.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Eight years of experience as a Warrant\r\nApprehension Unit Detective or eight years of comparable law enforcement\r\nexperience in a municipal, county, state or federal police agency and current\r\npolice officer certification from the Maryland Police and Correctional Training\r\nCommission.\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates may substitute the possession of\r\na Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with 30 semester\r\ncredit hours in the social, behavioral or correctional sciences and four years\r\nof experience as a Warrant Apprehension Unit Detective or four years of\r\ncomparable law enforcement experience in a municipal, county, state or federal\r\npolice agency for the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may substitute U. S. Armed\r\nForces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Military Police\r\nclassifications or specialty codes in the Criminal Justice field of work at the\r\nrate of two years of military experience for one year of the required\r\nexperience.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be\r\ngiven to applicants�who possess the following preferred\r\nqualification(s).�Include clear and specific information on your\r\napplication regarding�your qualifications.\r\n\r\n\r\n Experience in a leadership role\r\n with a Warrant Apprehension Unit or Task Force.�\r\n 5 years working as a\r\n full time Warrant Apprehension or Task Force Detective.\r\n\r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current police officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. Re-certification criteria for formerly certified police officers are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulation 12.04.01.07. Employees who fail to obtain the required certification by the end of six months of continuous employment with the hiring department shall be subject to disciplinary action including demotion, suspension and dismissal. \r\n2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees must have completed and graduated from the entrance level police training academy. Employees must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission as set forth in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR 12.04.01.04). Selection standards of the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission may be obtained from the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Suite 309, 6776 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.\r\n2. Employees in this classification may be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis.\r\n3. Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, must provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.\r\n4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. \r\n
