Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this\r\nclassification exists is to operate, maintain, and perform preventive\r\nmaintenance and skilled repairs on fuel sites and automotive shop support\r\nequipment across various city locations. The employee operates and services a\r\npetroleum service truck to include dispensing fuel and lubricants to city\r\nvehicles, trucks, and heavy off-road equipment. Work responsibilities include ordering\r\npetroleum and alternative fuels, servicing all city-owned vehicles, maintaining\r\ndaily records of all petroleum products and service records, and repairing and\r\nrebuilding liquid fuel dispensers, pumps, piping, valves, vapor recovery\r\nsystems, and special equipment. This position requires considerable independent\r\njudgement in maintaining adequate petroleum supplies and departmental materials.\r\nEmployees in this classification report to the Petroleum Maintenance\r\nSuperintendent.\r\n
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and one\r\n(1) year experience in petroleum equipment service and repair or another\r\nrelated mechanical repair field.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE:\r\nQualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite\r\nknowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.\r\n\r\n
Special Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license.� Within six (6) months of employment, must be\r\nable to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazardous\r\nMaterial and Tanker Endorsements.� Must\r\nbe available for on call duty, including nights, weekends, and holidays.\r\nWORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily outdoors and may\r\ninvolve exposure to loud noise, and adverse weather conditions such as rain,\r\nextreme heat, or cold. Physical requirements include the ability to reach above\r\nshoulder level, lift up to 100 pounds unassisted, walking, crawling, bending,\r\nstooping, standing for extended periods, and operating a motor vehicle and\r\nequipment.\r\n
