Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations** \r\n

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is\r\nto perform responsible managerial, administrative and professional engineering\r\nwork in the Engineering Department.�� The\r\nemployee’s primary responsibility is to furnish professional engineering\r\nadvice, assistance and service to employees and other departments in connection\r\nwith the planning or executing of public works improvement programs.� Supervision is exercised over professional\r\nand sub-professional engineering personnel engaged in public works development\r\nand engineering design.� The work\r\nresponsibilities are: supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff;\r\nassists in directing operation of the Engineering Department; assists in the\r\nmanagement of the department’s operating budget; provides technical expertise\r\nto assist with the development and design of projects and other highly\r\ntechnical areas; and directs and oversees the design section. The employee\r\nwithin this classification reports directly to the City Engineer.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering\r\nsupplemented by seven (7) years of professional experience that includes public\r\nworks infrastructure design, management and supervision. Must possess and\r\nmaintain Professional Engineer registration in the State of Alabama. Must\r\npossess or be willing to obtain a Flood Plain Managers Certificate.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE:� Qualifying education, training and\r\nexperience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to\r\nperform the job will be considered.\r\n\r\n

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Driver License\r\nand an insurable driving records as needed to travel to various sites.\r\n\r\n\r\nWORKING CONDITIONS:��While performing the essential functions of this\r\njob, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hands, fingers, handle or\r\nfeel objects, reach with hands and arms; speak and hear; lift and/or move up to\r\n10-25 pounds; ascend or descend ladders, stairs and the like using feet and\r\nlegs or hands and arms; standing and crouching.\r\nIncumbent is subject to work around moving equipment. Work is performed\r\nin an office environment and outdoors when inspecting work sites. Ability to\r\nwithstand continuous exposure to moderately disagreeable conditions such as:\r\nexposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outdoor\r\natmospheric conditions. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to\r\nwithstand above average mental pressure.\r\n\r\n
