Project Title
AI-Enabled NAND Defectivity Analysis and Failure Characterization
Project Description
The intern will participate in a structured engineering project focused on NAND flash memory defectivity analysis and product qualification. Through guided technical investigation, the intern will gain practical exposure to semiconductor device behavior, analytical methods, laboratory techniques, and Artificial Intelligence-enabled engineering workflows.
Objective of the Project
The objective is to develop and apply a systematic methodology for analyzing NAND flash memory defectivity, investigating electrical and physical failure mechanisms, and identifying potential countermeasures that contribute to the qualification of mobile, consumer solid-state drive, and enterprise solid-state drive products.
Opportunities for Full-Time Employment
Interns who demonstrate strong technical capability, effective collaboration, sound judgment, and alignment with organizational values may be considered for suitable full-time opportunities, subject to business requirements, position availability, and the applicable selection process.
Project Scope
* Analyze NAND flash memory defects using Defects per Million (DPM) data and Pareto analysis to identify significant defect categories and investigation priorities.
* Conduct guided Electrical Failure Analysis (EFA) using approved laboratory tools and analytical techniques to characterize technical failure mechanisms.
* Evaluate potential defect countermeasures, including electrical stress and screening concepts, by applying knowledge of digital circuits, analog circuits, semiconductor device physics, and process engineering.
* Participate in Physical Failure Analysis (PFA) and Root Cause Analysis to correlate electrical observations with physical evidence and determine probable failure mechanisms.
* Apply approved AI-Enabled tools or Generative AI capabilities to organize technical information, identify analytical patterns, improve documentation quality, and enhance project efficiency while exercising sound judgment and complying with organizational, confidentiality, intellectual-property, and legal requirements.
Learning Opportunities
* Develop practical knowledge of NAND flash memory architecture, semiconductor device physics, defectivity mechanisms, and product qualification principles.
* Gain guided exposure to Electrical Failure Analysis, Physical Failure Analysis, structured Root Cause Analysis, and semiconductor laboratory practices.
* Strengthen data analysis and programming capabilities using Python, C, or C++ for data preparation, visualization, trend analysis, or workflow improvement.
* Learn to evaluate AI-generated insights critically, validate outputs against engineering evidence, and apply Artificial Intelligence responsibly within an engineering environment.
Deliverables
* A structured Defects per Million and Pareto analysis identifying key defect categories, trends, and investigation priorities.
* Documented Electrical Failure Analysis and Physical Failure Analysis findings, including the analytical methodology, relevant observations, and evidence-based conclusions.
* A technical assessment of selected stress or screening countermeasures, including their engineering rationale and observed results.
* A final project report and presentation summarizing the methodology, findings, learning outcomes, limitations, and recommended next steps.
Impact of the Project
* Improve understanding of significant NAND flash memory defect mechanisms affecting end-product qualification.
* Provide data-driven insights that may inform future investigation, screening, or defect-reduction activities.
* Strengthen the traceability and consistency of technical analysis through structured documentation and evidence-based conclusions.
* Identify responsible AI-Enabled enhancements that may improve the efficiency, quality, or effectiveness of engineering analysis within the project scope.
Skillsets Required
* Foundational knowledge of digital circuits, analog circuits, semiconductor device physics, or semiconductor processing.
* Familiarity with Python, C, or C++, with the ability to apply programming concepts to engineering data analysis.
* Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, an AI Assistant, or other AI-Enabled workflows, together with the ability to verify generated outputs and protect confidential information.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, prioritization, and English communication skills, with the initiative to learn in a dynamic technical environment.
Course of Interest
The ideal candidate should be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Microelectronics, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Duration of Period
The ideal candidate should be able to commit to a full-time internship period of 5 months.
