An Opportunity for an Experienced, Hands-On Accounting Professional
Port Coquitlam location

We are seeking a highly organized, experienced and detail-oriented Contract Accountant to manage our client’s monthly accounting cycle and ensure accurate, timely and complete month-end financial records.

This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated accounting professional who enjoys working independently, takes pride in accuracy, and has strong hands-on experience with Sage 300 Quantum or Sage 50.

Working approximately 18 hours per week, you will play an important role in maintaining the integrity of financial records, managing the month-end close process, and providing reliable financial information to support business operations and management decisions.

Key Responsibilities
Month-End Accounting & Financial Reporting

Manage the full month-end accounting cycle and ensure all accounts are accurately recorded and reconciled.
Prepare monthly financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets.
Complete monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepayments and adjusting entries.
Review general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies or unusual transactions.
Ensure accounts payable and accounts receivable are properly recorded and reconciled.
Maintain accurate supporting schedules and documentation.
Assist with cash flow reporting and other financial analysis as required.
Prepare organized financial records and working papers for year-end accounting and external accountants.

Accounting Systems & Administration

Maintain and manage accounting records using Sage 300 Quantum.
Ensure the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers are accurate and up to date.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, reporting and month-end efficiencies.
Maintain organized electronic accounting files and supporting documentation.
Ensure applicable tax and statutory reporting requirements are met, including GST as applicable.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will bring:

5+ years of hands-on accounting or full-cycle bookkeeping experience.
Strong, demonstrable experience with Sage 300 Quantum or Sage 50. This is an important requirement.
Solid understanding of full-cycle accounting and month-end financial procedures.
Experience preparing monthly financial statements and account reconciliations.
Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
The ability to work independently, manage priorities and meet deadlines.
A proactive approach to identifying and resolving accounting discrepancies.
A diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Position

Employment Type: Part-time contract
Hours: Approximately 18 hours per week
Schedule: Flexible, with some flexibility in arranging weekly hours, provided month-end deadlines are met.
Location: Port Coquitlam
Compensation: $40-$50 per hour depending on experience
