Who we are:

The MJD Foundation (MJDF) partners with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families living with Machado Joseph Disease (MJD) and Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 7 (SCA7). Our mission is simple but profound: to help families stay stronger for longer.

What makes us different is Our Way — a model built on trust, family, respect and teamwork, combining best practice Western knowledge with Aboriginal cultural knowledge. We walk alongside families, supporting them with specialist services while ensuring community voices, cultural practices and family priorities lead the way.

Why this role matters:

As an NDIS Support Coordinator, you’ll be the vital link between families and the supports they need to live well. You’ll help participants navigate the NDIS with clarity, build their capacity to manage supports, and ensure every plan is aligned with their goals and community priorities. This is a role that’s not just about paperwork — it’s about people, relationships, and walking alongside families with dignity and respect.

What you’ll do:

  • Coordinate supports in line with participant goals and NDIS funding plans.
  • Build strong relationships with families, providers, and our internal teams.
  • Strengthen participants’ capacity to self-manage and engage in community life.
  • Support access to health, housing, education, and other mainstream and funded services.
  • Work closely with MJDF’s Aboriginal Cultural Advisors and staff to ensure supports consider the holistic needs of our clients.
  • Manage budgets, claims, and reports in line with NDIS requirements.
  • Collaborate across the organisation to maintain and improve internal NDIS administrative procedures.

Why join MJDF?

  • Be part of a close-knit team who genuinely care about each other and the families we serve.
  • Work in a role that blends challenge with reward, impact with meaning.
  • Learn from and work alongside Aboriginal Cultural Advisors, building cultural competency every day.
  • Ongoing training and development tailored to your goals.
  • Access generous salary packaging benefits as a not-for-profit, including up to $15,900 tax-free each FBT year for everyday living expenses, plus an additional $2,650 for meals and entertainment, boosting your take-home pay.
  • Six (6) weeks annual leave + paid wellbeing day.
  • Flexibility in how and where you work.
  • Opportunity to travel to remote communities.

What we’re looking for:

Essential

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Disability, Community Services, Mental Health, or Case Management (or higher — e.g. Diploma/Degree in Allied Health, Social Work, or similar).
  • Experience in NDIS Support Coordination or a related role in disability, health, or community services.
  • Strong understanding of the NDIS Price Guide, funding flexibility, and plan utilisation.
  • Excellent communication skills — verbal and written — with cultural sensitivity and a person-centred approach.
  • Commitment to working in partnership with Aboriginal families and communities.
  • High attention to detail, IT literacy, and ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Willingness to travel to remote NT and QLD communities (by light aircraft or 4WD).

 Desirable

  • Experience working in Aboriginal communities and/or alongside Aboriginal community workers.
  • Understanding of culturally safe practices in disability support.
  • Knowledge of SDA/SIL funding processes and Access Request Form pathways.
  • Experience coordinating high-level Assistive Technology (AT) supports and collaborating with clinical professionals.
