Artificial intelligence is changing war - making decisions in combat quicker and more accurate, while enabling information to be shared more rapidly across both America’s and her adversaries’ militaries. Modern Intelligence builds Sovereign, the first defense-purpose foundation AI for unmanned systems, to be the standard battlefield AI on every Western unmanned system. Today, Sovereign allows drones as varied as unmanned vessels on water to backpack attack quadcopters to see, decide, and act even when jammed. We believe the responsibility of reliably and ethically building lethally autonomous AI is immense to our service members, the American people, and civilians everywhere.

Modern Intelligence has worked with partners across the Department of War including the Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Special Operations Command (SOCOM), the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering, and countless unmanned systems hardware companies.

We have raised more than $22M million in venture capital from Exponential, Oxford Funds, Bedrock, Vine Ventures, Contrary, Air Street, Caffeinated, Champion Hill, Swell, Myelin, and others.

We’re hiring a Senior Marketing Manager to own how Modern Intelligence shows up across all mediums: video, social, print, booths and events, and overall design. You don’t need to be the specialist in every lane, but you should be strong at video and social yourself, and able to raise the bar everywhere else by hiring and managing the right vendors.

We’re a heavy computer vision company, so our expectation is to show things visually. Day to day you’ll run the marketing engine. At first we expect you to produce a large share of the work yourself, using AI tools to move faster on research, drafts, edits, and creative options, and to bring in agencies or freelancers when a specialist is the better call. As you show you can set the narrative, the creative standard, and the vendor stack, you’ll take on broader ownership.

We expect this role to turn a clear product story into visible work across:

  • demos made for short form video
  • explainers and long form video
  • social and LinkedIn/X that are sharp, relevant, and engaging
  • sourcing and creating content with partners
  • print and design that look like a serious defense company
  • trade-show booths from brief through on-site
  • We are a small team and we move fast. You will do much of the work yourself, build and run a small vendor roster (agencies, freelancers, production) on a startup budget, hold partners to deadlines, and fix work that is late or off-brand. You must feel comfortable working with founders and technical leaders as the primary story owners.

You will be our first marketing hire with the eventual goal building and owning an entire internal team.

  • 3+ years in marketing, brand, demand gen, or GTM at a B2B, hardware, defense, or deep-tech company (agency experience on the client side of briefs also counts)
  • Proven experience briefing and managing external creatives: agencies, freelancers, or production partners for video, design, or events
  • Strong written voice: turn technical product language into clear customer-facing copy
  • Hands-on with video and social yourself (edit or produce short-form, post and iterate), plus comfort across web/landing pages, event/booth collateral, and basic campaign ops (calendar, assets, deadlines)
  • Heavy day-to-day use of AI tools for research, drafting, editing, creative iteration, and production speed, with judgment on when to ship vs. when a human pass is required
  • Portfolio or work samples that show shipped campaigns or assets, not only strategy docs
  • Travel
  • You must have the ability to travel for events, demos, and customer or partner moments as needed
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or other protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)). This role may work with export-controlled technology and controlled messaging.
  • Experience marketing autonomy, robotics, aerospace, and defense technology
  • Direct ownership of trade-show booths and materials
  • Direct ownership of field-demo presence
  • Experience building or running a small vendor roster (video, design, print, social)
  • Comfort working with founders or technical leaders as the primary story owners
  • Familiarity with marketing on LinkedIn, X, and in defense/industry events
  • Product and design taste
  • Prior in-house marketing roles with leadership or stretch-leadership experience
  • Experience with CRMs or light marketing ops tools (Resend, Clay, Attio, or similar)
  • Existing relationships with creative or production partners you would bring into the fold
  • Modern Intelligence builds Sovereign: edge targeting software for unmanned systems, already in use on live missions. You’ll own how the company shows up across video, social, print, booths, and design, sitting with the people who build the product. If you’re hungry, move with agency, you should apply.
