Quick Summary
About the Role The Senior Additive Manufacturing Technician owns hands-on operation of NordSpace metal additive manufacturing, with a primary focus on Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF).
About the Role
~1 min readThe Senior Additive Manufacturing Technician owns hands-on operation of NordSpace metal additive manufacturing, with a primary focus on Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF). You will run the full build cycle, file prep, machine setup, printing, powder management, part removal, post-processing and inspection, producing flight-quality metal components for the Tundra launch vehicle and space systems programs.
Responsibilities
~1 min readOperate NordSpace LPBF metal additive systems end to end, develop and refine build procedures across multiple alloys, manage the metal powder lifecycle safely, and deliver inspected, fully traceable flight-quality parts.
- →Operate LPBF metal 3D printing systems through the full build cycle (file review, machine setup, powder loading, atmosphere prep, print execution, in-process monitoring, build removal) and prepare build files with design engineers
- →Develop, document and refine build procedures and parameters for Inconel, titanium, stainless steel and aluminium, and support process development including test coupons, parameter optimization, and density and microstructure evaluation
- →Manage the full metal powder lifecycle (receiving, storage, sieving, recycling, sampling, lot tracking, disposal) with strict PPE, inert atmosphere, static discharge and fire mitigation for reactive powders, and maintain material certification traceability
- →Perform post-processing and inspection: stress relief, heat treatment, support removal, surface finishing, bead blasting, machining prep, and dimensional inspection with calipers, CMM and optical scanning against GD&T
- →Carry out preventive maintenance on LPBF systems (laser optics, recoater calibration, filters, gas systems, build chamber)
- →Maintain full build traceability with machine logs, powder lot records, parameters, monitoring data and post-processing records per the NordSpace QMS
Requirements
~1 min read- Diploma or certificate in Manufacturing Technology, Materials Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metallurgy or related (equivalent hands-on experience accepted)
- 4+ years operating metal AM systems, direct LPBF strongly preferred
- Practical metal powder handling, safety and management, including reactive alloys (copper, titanium, aluminium), and familiarity with build prep software
- Metallurgy fundamentals for AM (heat treatment, residual stress, porosity, microstructure) and post-processing
- Able to read engineering drawings with GD&T, material specs and process documents
- Disciplined on safety, comfortable with fine metal powders and PPE, results-oriented
- Full-time on-site at Markham, Ontario or St. John's, Newfoundland
