The Associate Researcher I is a laboratory research position, responsible for independent conduct of routine and standardized experiments. This individual assists in the interpretation of research outcomes, performs assays to support research studies, and assists in the clerical and supply aspects of the laboratory environment.
The Wu Laboratory studies how social and learned behaviors are flexibly controlled by the animal's experience, internal state, and the moment-by-moment actions of other animals. Our lab takes an integrated neuroscience approach using mouse social behavior and cognitive tasks, applying molecular genetics, imaging, in vivo electrophysiology, optogenetics, quantitative behavioral analysis, and computational modeling.
- Supports research projects investigating the neural circuits underlying social and cognitive behaviors in mice.
- Performs stereotaxic surgeries, viral injections, and optical fiber and electrode implantations.
- Trains mice on cognitive and social behavioral tasks and conducts in vivo electrophysiology and functional imaging experiments.
- Performs histology and immunostaining and analyzes behavioral, electrophysiological, and imaging data.
- Builds and programs experimental systems to support laboratory research.
- Maintains mouse colonies and research records; coordinates purchasing, personnel training, and other laboratory logistics.
- Performs other related duties
- Bachelors or Master's degree in science or related field (neuroscience, biology, psychology, engineering, computer science, etc) required.
- No experience required. One year of research experience preferred.
- Prior research experience in a neuroscience or biology laboratory preferred.
- Experience working with rodents preferred, including handling, surgery and behavioral training.
