Quick Summary
Ph.D. degree in biological science, or other related field. . .
You will participate in research centered around the modeling of hematopoietic diseases and in particular myeloid malignancies with human pluripotent stem cells (induced pluripotent stem cells and embryonic stem cells). Your responsibilities in this research are to perform experiments (including the generation, culture, hematopoietic differentiation and genetic modification of human pluripotent stem cells, molecular analyses, and xenograft experiments in mice), analyze and present data in lab meetings, institutional work-in-progress seminars and national and international conferences, and assist with preparation of manuscripts and grant applications.
You will also participate in research related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, you will participate in a study involving the generation of new models of COVID-19 using reprogramming technology to derive induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) from patients with COVID-19 with the goal to understand the genetics of predisposition to severe or fatal COVID-19 disease. You will be involved in experiments to isolate blood cells from patients with severe COVID-19 disease at the Mount Sinai hospital and reprogram them into iPSC lines. You will then use directed differentiation methods to generate diverse cell types from them, such as lung alveolar cells, endothelial cells, cardiomyocytes and neurons and test their ability to support entry of the SARS-CoV2 virus.
Your participation is solely for the purposes of research. No element of patient care services will be involved.
