Job Description
The Medical/Surgical Technician is an allied health professional who under the supervision of physician(s) supports and assists the physician(s) and clinical staff in the delivery of health care by performing a variety of patient care duties and tasks related to surgical patient needs.
Responsibilities
Assists in assessment of patient ability to follow directions/instructions.
Assists in treatment and care of the surgical, pre, or post operative patient.
Provide education involving the care and plan of treatment of the surgical patient. (i.e. proper care of wound site, bandages, sutures).
Assist with execution of minor surgical procedures and services for the surgical patient. (i.e. inspect and adjust bandages needed for surgical, pre or post operative care).
In the event of an emergency, apply recognized first aid procedures.
Provides and documents patient, family education and teaching.
Greet patients and provide an initial evaluation as needed.
Sets up exam room/procedure rooms appropriately based on patient visit needs.
Assist provider in examination/procedure rooms as needed.
Assist in follow-up scheduling needs; assist in overall surgery scheduling as needed.
Answer patient calls, questions and addresses problems in timely fashion.
Communicates all significant clinical findings to MD.
Serves as liaison with other departments, facilities, and hospital as needed.

About the Department:
Our Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) team provides specialized, multidisciplinary care for patients primarily being treated for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The team works collaboratively to help patients navigate complex healthcare services, remove barriers to care, and coordinate access to treatment.
This Patient Navigator position has a strong Medical Assistant (MA) and specialty medication coordination focus. The role joins a dedicated team that includes an MA, LVN, and non-licensed Patient Navigator within the larger multidisciplinary IBD clinic.
Responsibilities
What You Will Do
As a Patient Navigator, you will use your medical office and MA-related experience to support patients through the complex process of accessing biologic therapies. A significant focus of the position is biologic medication authorizations and back-office care coordination.
You will work closely with physicians, pharmacists, infusion centers, patients, and other members of the care team to:
Coordinate and support biologic medication authorization workflows.
Obtain and maintain documentation needed to facilitate medication and treatment authorizations.
Communicate with patients regarding authorization and care-coordination needs.
Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, infusion centers, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team.
Proactively track new and follow-up patients and help address insurance-related barriers.
Serve as a liaison between patients and their care teams to facilitate timely communication and problem resolution.
Coordinate appointments, referrals, consultations, ancillary procedures, and interdepartmental services as applicable.
Provide advanced back-office and administrative support for patient care workflows.
Manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, organization, and timely follow-through.
Identify workflow challenges and opportunities to improve the patient experience and access to care.

High School Diploma/GED General Education - minimum
Vocational/Technical Diploma Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program. - preferred
Experience
2 or more years of experience in an inpatient or outpatient medical setting with Surgical Tech specialty experience - minimum
Licenses and Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) - minimum Current CPR certification.
Certified Surgical Technologist - preferred
