Technical Aide

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.

The successful candidate will work on animal patients; monitors temperature, pulse and respiration; monitors IV fluid administration; will walk animals outside; will clean ward areas, stock supplies; will process lab samples and medication orders; enters charges in the hospital information system; assists clinicians, veterinary technicians and clinical students with animal patients in the Emergency and Critical Care Unit of the Veterinary Medical Center.

Experience with general handling of cats and dogs; knowledge of animal restraint for blood collection and IV catheter placement; positioning for X-rays and IV fluid monitoring; previous exposure to monitoring equipment such as IV fluid pumps, EKG, Pulse oximeter and Doppler blood pressure.

Lifting animal patients onto cages and medical equipment; carrying animals between cages and exam tables and gurneys; pushing carts containing animals and equipment to other units; climbing stairs carrying lab samples; restraining animals; preparing for medical procedures and treatments.
