At Post & Co, you will handle complex international marine liability claims with a high degree of responsibility and direct contact with clients and specialists around the world. You will join a stable, experienced team and have plenty of room to develop your expertise.

And you are joining at an interesting time. Post & Co still operates with the character and short lines of a specialist company, while now being part of a much larger international insurance organisation.

You will become one of four Claims Handlers, reporting to Claims Manager Stefan.

The vacancy has arisen because Frans is retiring after a long career with Post & Co. That says something about the team: people tend to stay.

You will work alongside experienced colleagues who know the marine insurance world well. The atmosphere is informal and down-to-earth. You are trusted to handle your own cases and use your professional judgement, while colleagues are close by when you want to discuss a difficult claim.

At the same time, the organisation is changing. There are more procedures, reporting requirements and approvals than there used to be. In return, Post & Co benefits from significant investment in areas such as automation, software and professional support from specialist departments including marketing.

So, this role will particularly suit you if you appreciate the autonomy of a smaller business but are also comfortable working within the structure of a larger organisation.

  • As an all-round Claims Handler, you will manage a varied portfolio of often complex marine claims arising from contractual and/or legal liabilities.
  • Your clients operate in shipping, offshore, fisheries, inland shipping and the luxury yacht sector.
  • You will communicate internationally with clients, insurance brokers, P&I Clubs, insurers, lawyers, surveyors, experts and other parties involved in a claim.
  • Your job is to understand what has happened, assess the situation and help your client navigate the claim from start to finish. That requires sound judgement, clear communication and the confidence to take responsibility for your cases.
  • No two files are exactly the same – and that is precisely what makes the role interesting.

Post & Co is a specialist in marine liability and related insurance, with its head office in Rotterdam.

The company is now part of Rokstone, the underwriting division of London-based insurance group Aventum. Locally, however, Post & Co continues to operate under its own name and maintains much of the specialist, informal culture that has defined the business.

It offers an unusual combination: the accessibility and autonomy of a specialist company, backed by the resources and expertise of a larger international insurance organisation.

More information (including videos and all employees): www.post-co.com

  • You have several years of relevant professional experience. This could be in claims handling, insurance, law, marine insurance or as a marine surveyor.
  • You do not necessarily need to know every aspect of marine claims already. Relevant experience, curiosity and the ability to analyse complex situations are important.
  • Already an experienced Claims Handler? Post & Co is equally interested in hearing from you.
  • You communicate confidently with different stakeholders, take ownership of your work and know when a case requires consultation or escalation.

You can work part-time or full-time from Post & Co's Rotterdam office with 42 colleagues at Blaak 31, right next to the Markthal. The office is on the 11th floor and offers impressive views across Rotterdam.

You will receive on-the-job training and have access to internal and external courses, including training opportunities in the UK. There are also opportunities to develop towards a senior position.

Benefits include 27 days of annual leave, a collective pension scheme with only a 1% employee contribution and 100% reimbursement of public-transport commuting costs. Working from home is also possible.

Can you see yourself taking ownership of international marine claims while working in a close-knit specialist team in Rotterdam?

Applying is straightforward. A cover letter is not required, although you are welcome to include one.
