The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Key Duties
• General construction knowledge including carpentry, concrete, and /or finishes.
• Perform journey‑level maintenance, repair, and construction work across multiple skilled trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, masonry).
• Diagnose complex facility and equipment issues and plan multi‑trade solutions to resolve them.
• Work independently with minimal oversight, consulting supervisors only for unusual or advanced problems.
• Provide technical guidance and support to other maintenance staff, including semiskilled or unskilled workers.
• Ensure all work complies with established safety regulations, building codes, and maintenance standards.
Maintenance/Construction Technician I
Salary Range - $31,200 - $53,812
Salary Grade NC 03

Salary Range $ 41,206 - $72,113
Salary Grace NC 09

Maintenance/Construction Technician I
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience associated with a variety of mechanical or building trades
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience
May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
Maintenance/Construction Technician II
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade area
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
Maintenance/Construction Technician III
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
