POSITION TYPE:

LOCATION: 

The work will be focused on fighting new data centers planned for the I-95 corridor between Prince William County and Henrico County.  Applicants can be based along the corridor or work out of our Richmond or Northern Virginia offices.   Driving will be required along for this campaign.  

DESCRIPTION: 

New Virginia Majority is developing organizing strategy and policy demands to address the environmental, energy, economic and political crisis resulting from the proliferation of data centers in Virginia. Virginia is at the center of global data center operations. Many new data centers are planned along the I-95 corridor between Richmond and Prince William County.  These data center developments have negative impacts on the lives of Virginians, including energy use and electricity pricing, water use and environmental degradation, and the concentration of political and economic power in a tech oligarchy.  

New Virginia Majority is hiring  a full-time Senior Organizer who will be responsible for helping to develop and execute overall organizing strategy and campaigns focused on stopping the many negative impacts of data centers.  This person will recruit community members, develop leaders, and build and support community-based leadership teams,  and co-create and execute campaign strategy. We are looking for candidates with experience in leading and winning issue based campaigns at the local and state levels.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Build strong relationships with community members
• Train and develop NVM members -develop leaders within data center campaigns
• Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations, elected officials and  community members that will help advance overall organizing campaigns 
• Timely follow up with leads including one-on-one meetings, phone calls and  house visits
•  Track progress and engagement of members and activists 
•  Develop member / leader agency through popular  education, reflection, and action.  
• Participate in campaign development, strategizing and implementation. 
• Participate in building campaign coalitions and key relationships with campaign-related  allies. 
• Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• At least 3 years of experience as a paid organizer 
• Demonstrated experience in leading organizing direct action and legislative campaigns
• Committed to New Virginia Majority’s mission of social, racial and economic justice
• Ability to develop and maintain a variety of relationships 
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to work independently 
• Demonstrated Experience organizing in communities of color
• Ability to take direction and receive constructive feedback. 
• Driver’s license and access to a car. 
• Bilingual in Spanish and English - preferred. 
• A minimum one-year commitment to the position. 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: 

Salaries are competitive. Salary range is $60-$64,000  commensurate with experience, excellent benefits package, including health, vision, dental, and stipends for phone and transportation.
