Northwest Nazarene University’s College of Behavioral and Social Sciences invites applications for a Director of Clinical Training (DCT) for its APA accredited Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology program.

Responsibilities

  • →Oversees the practicum training sequence and ensure that clinical experiences support progressive development of professional competencies.
  • →Coordinates practicum placements and maintains relationships with external training sites and supervisors.
  • →Develops and expands relationships with community agencies and clinical settings to increase the range and quality of practicum opportunities available to PsyD students.
  • →Represents the PsyD program in the community and cultivate new clinical training partnerships.
  • →Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of practicum sites and address concerns related to student training experiences.
  • →Monitors student clinical progress and readiness for advancement through successive levels of training.
  • →Works with faculty and supervisors to identify and address concerns related to clinical competence, professionalism, and readiness for practice.
  • →Maintains clinical training policies, procedures, documentation, and records consistent with program requirements and applicable accreditation standards.
  • →Provides orientation and ongoing communication to students regarding practicum expectations, documentation, evaluation, and professional responsibilities.
  • →Supports students through preparation for doctoral internship, including readiness review and the APPIC application process.
  • →Monitors student progress through internship application, placement, and completion.
  • →Maintains relationships with internship and practicum training partners and develop additional training opportunities as needed.
  • →Participates in program assessment and accreditation activities related to clinical training.
  • →Collaborates closely with the PsyD Program Director, faculty, clinic leadership, and administrative staff regarding clinical training needs and student progress.
  • →Participates in faculty discussions and decisions regarding student remediation, professional development, and clinical competency.
  • →Stays current with developments in clinical training, licensure preparation, APPIC processes, and APA accreditation expectations.

Depending on appointment type and percentage, faculty responsibilities may include:

  • →Teach courses within the PsyD program based on areas of expertise and program needs.
  • →Advise and mentor doctoral students.
  • →Chair or serve on dissertation committees.
  • →Participate in PsyD faculty meetings, student interviews, program events, and curriculum development.
  • →Maintain scholarly and professional activity consistent with faculty appointment and university expectations.
  • →Participate in department, college, university, and professional service as appropriate to appointment.
  • →Model ethical, professional, and culturally responsive practice consistent with the profession of psychology and the mission of Northwest Nazarene University.

Teaching and other faculty responsibilities will be adjusted to reflect the administrative responsibilities and percentage of appointment associated with the Director of Clinical Training role.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program.
  • Current licensure as a psychologist in Idaho or eligibility for licensure as a psychologist in Idaho.
  • Experience providing clinical services and supervising developing clinicians.
  • Knowledge of doctoral-level clinical training and competency-based education.
  • Ability to evaluate student clinical development and readiness for increasingly independent practice.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability and willingness to represent the PsyD program in the community, develop relationships with clinical training partners, and identify and cultivate new practicum opportunities for students.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, supervisors, training sites, and community partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple students, sites, supervisors, and training requirements.
  • Commitment to ethical, professional, and culturally responsive clinical practice.
  • Commitment to the Christian mission of Northwest Nazarene University. The University requires faculty members to be professing Christians, preferably within the Wesleyan tradition, and to support the mission and lifestyle expectations of the University.
  • Experience serving as a Director of Clinical Training, practicum coordinator, internship training director, or in a comparable doctoral clinical training role.
  • Experience with APPIC internship processes.
  • Experience in an APA-accredited doctoral psychology program.
  • Familiarity with APA Standards of Accreditation and requirements related to practicum and internship training.
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with external clinical training sites.
  • Experience addressing student competency concerns, remediation, and professional development.
  • Graduate or doctoral-level teaching experience.
  • Experience supervising psychological assessment and/or psychotherapy.
  • Evidence of ongoing scholarly or professional activity.
