SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is pleased to offer a one-year curatorial fellowship, generously made possible by Canal Projects. The Canal Projects Curatorial Fellow will assist senior curatorial staff in all activities pertaining to the Guggenheim’s curatorial program, including work in support of research, exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, public and digital programs, and other general curatorial functions. Working under the guidance of the Curator, Asian Art Initiative and Head, Global Exhibitions Initiative, the Curatorial Fellow will also participate in the ongoing activities of the Asian Art Initiative.
Rooted in shared values of cultural stewardship and mentorship for art professionals, the fellowship reflects the Guggenheim’s and Canal Projects’ commitment to furthering the future of art through research, education, and public engagement.

LOCATION: One Liberty Plaza, New York, NY 10006
WORK SCHEDULE: Hybrid eligible, and hours vary based on position. This is a one-year fixed-term position, starting as soon as possible.
POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Exempt, This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 2110 UAW.
SALARY RANGE: $65,775.80 - $68,000 Annually

SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s Degree or PhD candidate in Art History
- Previous museum curatorial experience is preferred
- Background in modern and contemporary art with demonstrated expertise in global art history preferred
- Knowledge of contemporary Asian artists and Asian diasporic practices a plus
- Computer skills and advanced proficiency with database software including collection management databases (The Museum System (TMS)) and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, SharePoint, Word, and Excel)
- Foreign language skills are a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with strong attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist in the curatorial department’s exhibition program, as assigned and required, including research, checklists, data management, catalog preparations, interpretive materials, fundraising, and public programs
- Support curator(s) in all aspects of the acquisitions process of the Asian Art Circle (AAC), including conducting preliminary research, writing scholarly curatorial reports on artists and works, preparing presentations for acquisition committee meetings, tracking paperwork and relevant correspondence with galleries, artists, and donors, and general follow-through on acquisition intake as needed.
- Support preparation and implementation of Asian Art Circle meetings and cultivation events, including possible international travel for AAC meetings as necessary
- Provide support for ongoing and new curatorial activities relating to the Asian Art Initiative and other contemporary art projects
- Assist in the development and updating of curatorial and research-based content for the museum’s website and digital platforms, ensuring accuracy and a balance of scholarly rigor and accessibility.
- Participate in departmental and museum-wide special projects
- Work with curatorial interns as assigned
WORK DEMANDS and ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties at any of the Guggenheim’s owned or leased properties
- Ability to travel internationally to support project curator(s), as needed
- Virtual meetings across time zones
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays on occasion.
