The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO takes pride in recruiting, developing and retaining highly talented individuals. Our summer internship programs give young professionals the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of New York electricity markets, bulk electricity systems and how we plan for New York State’s energy future.

The NYISO is seeking two Software Technologies Interns to participate in a structured rotational internship program. This opportunity is designed to provide exposure to multiple business domains, technology platforms, and software engineering practices while supporting NYISO's critical financial, market, reliability, and enterprise systems. Interns will work alongside experienced software engineers and contribute to real-world software development initiatives that support the reliable operation of New York's electric grid.

Throughout the internship, students may contribute to application enhancements, system integrations, API development, automation solutions, dashboards and reporting tools, technology modernization efforts, and process improvements that increase operational efficiency. Interns may also support software testing, defect resolution, commercial software configuration, and the use of AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and code quality. This experience provides hands-on exposure to the full software development lifecycle while allowing interns to work on meaningful projects that deliver value to the organization.

Through project assignments, mentoring, and collaboration with technology professionals across the organization, interns will strengthen their technical, analytical, and communication skills while gaining practical experience in enterprise software engineering within a mission-critical industry.
