Marketing Manager
Quick Summary
SEO/GEO, social, ads, website and landing pages, and o
In 2016 our founder Sam's mum died suddenly in a car accident. Dealing with the shock of her death was tough enough, but the frustration of legal fees and mess that came with it was overwhelming.
Octopus Legacy was created to help people plan for death and find support after someone dies. To make the experience of losing someone that little bit easier, so when someone dies, the people left behind can focus on what truly matters.
Since then we joined the Octopus Group, best known for Octopus Energy, and have grown rapidly, to be one of the UK's largest estate planners, helping over 1 million people navigate one of life's toughest moments. And we're only just getting started.
Nearly all of us will navigate the death of someone we love, and for many people it will be one of the hardest moments in their life. And yet it’s not something we talk about openly, and the process that follows is chaotic and overwhelming - making a tough time even harder than it needs to be. We want to be the brand that gets the UK talking about death, and to be the place where people plan for death and find support after someone dies.
In this role you'll own the pre-registration part of that journey - our organic growth engine: brand, content, PR, partnerships and campaigns. Everything that makes people hear about us, trust us and choose us. Success in this role will increase organic lead volume, decrease weighted CPA and improve registration rate.
You’ll be working directly with the Head of Brand and Growth Marketing as well as Sam, our founder.
This is a broad, hands-on role. One week you'll be briefing video content and optimising our top of funnel creative. Next you'll be prepping our founder for a podcast, writing an award entry, or taking a campaign from brief to launch to results.
The work you make will reach families at some of the hardest moments of their lives, and you won't be starting cold: there's rapid growth, the Octopus name, and a founding story that drives everything we do.
Responsibilities
~1 min readAt Octopus Legacy you'll be getting stuck in, no roles are purely strategic - you'll be rolling up your sleeves, testing new channels, and this role will evolve and grow with you and the business. That said, here are some examples of the kind of work you’ll touch in this role.
- Shape and optimise content across our organic and paid channels with our Content Marketing Manager and Performance Marketing teams: SEO/GEO, social, ads, website and landing pages, and our own services including the bereavement platform.
- Analyse what's performing to decide what gets made next.
- Run campaigns end to end: brief, build, launch, measure.
- Shape Octopus Legacy and Sam’s reputation with key audiences: press, investors, operators, prospective partners
- Ensure our brand shows up strongly at the right events, conversations and moments
- Source and prepare podcast, interview, radio and PR opportunities for the company and our founder, then amplify the coverage.
- Identify the awards worth entering, write the submissions, and help us build trust with our potential customers.
- Identify strategic partnerships with brands and individuals, owning the messaging, materials and campaigns.
- Bring the brand to life at influencer, PR, B2B and consumer events to drive leads.
- This role requires great instincts but the right candidate will be hungry to dive into the numbers and confident making decisions based on data, optimising towards success.
- Brand awareness and consideration: organic volume and direct traffic.
- CPA: non-paid leads from organic channels, and the trend in our blended cost per acquisition.
- Brand trust: registration rate, plus awards won.
We’re a mission-obsessed team with high standards, big ambitions, who work at a ferocious pace. You’ll be joining at a formative moment in our growth, with the chance to shape how we show up to the world.
- Several years of marketing experience, ideally in a fast-growing consumer business.
- A track record of building awareness through organic channels, not just paid.
- Strategic thinking paired with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and do the work yourself. We're a small, fast-paced team; no role is purely strategic, we're all executors.
- Strong copywriting skills. Editorial instincts with sharp creative judgement. Much of this role is words: campaigns, award entries, PR angles, creative variants.
- Are confident directing and creating content across formats; from video scripts and social copy to press releases.
- Passion for our mission and the ability to bring people along with you.
- A restless growth mindset. You're constantly looking for new ways of leveraging AI tools and other hacks to help us move faster and grow bigger and better.
- Confidence with data. You can read performance, form a view, and adapt accordingly.
- You're comfortable talking about death plainly and warmly.
- Experience of working in a rapidly scaling high growth business.
- You are someone who needs lots of structure, process, or sign‑off to move quickly.
- You’re more comfortable planning than executing or you don’t have hands-on experience.
- Flexible working: 3 days in the office (London Bridge), up to 2 days remote
- Work from anywhere in the world for up to 4 weeks per year
- An extra holiday day for your birthday
- Life insurance, Health insurance, Will & LPAs
- Octopus share incentive scheme
- Cycle to Work Scheme and access to the Electric Vehicle (EV) Salary Sacrifice Scheme
- Octopus Giving: we match any charitable fundraising that you do up to £500
- Octopus Springboard: where we help our employees become fully-fledged entrepreneurs
If you are not 100% sure if you are right for the role, please apply regardless and we will be happy to consider your application.
We know that to be truly innovative, we need to have a diverse team around us. That is why Octopus Legacy is committed to creating an inclusive environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
