Head of Product Engineering

We're hiring a strategic Head of Product Engineering to lead the squads building Ohme's customer and partner facing smart charging experience — the apps, services, portals and platforms our drivers and partners touch every day. You’ll set technical direction, shape the operating model, and grow leaders. This is a senior leadership role with minimal hands-on coding, focused instead on technical direction, organisational design, and operational excellence across our digital backbone. A core focus is embedding AI capabilities that make charging cheaper, greener, and simpler.

You’ll partner with all facets of Ohme’s ecosystem to turn customer needs into well‑vetted roadmaps, elevate engineering practices, and ship reliably at pace. This role is ideal for a systems‑minded leader who enjoys solving complex real-life problems, fostering alignment, and scaling teams.

Key Responsibilities 

• Technical strategy & architecture: Own the multi‑year architecture vision across portals and services.
• Operate as Product's closest counterpart: pair with Product leadership to balance ambition, feasibility and architectural integrity, and ensure squads are organised around customer or partner outcomes rather than technical components.
• Org & operating model: Define, drive, measure and optimise how squads work (charters, decision rights, planning cadence, cross‑squad interfaces) to enable dependable product delivery.
• Process & practices: Set engineering standards in an AI first eco-system: Agile, CI/CD, automated testing, AI assisted coding, documentation and architectural guardrails.
• Reliability & incidents: Run on‑call design, SLIs/SLOs, runbooks and post‑incident reviews; ensure crisp bug escalation for customer and partner impacting issues and safe, progressive releases.
• People & growth: Recruit exceptional talent, design effective onboarding, coach team leads, set a motivating team vision, and build an inclusive, high accountability culture.
• Procurement & tooling: Own the developer experience stack and vendor choices to improve velocity and quality.
• Business reporting: Provide transparent updates on product/roadmap delivery, risk, quality and strategic progress to senior leadership.
• Leadership: Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership as a strategic partner, providing bold ideas, constructive challenge, and operational focus. Shape and influence the broader business strategy through deep technical insight.

Who you are

• Confident people leader with 6+ years guiding multiple squads in product-led environments, ideally B2C and B2B2C.
• Instinct for the customer: you connect engineering decisions to user experience and commercial outcomes, and you've shipped products people actually use.
• Demonstrable knowledge in cloud/distributed systems ideally in JVM at high-scale, product-first company.
• You'll partner closely with other leaders in the tech organisation.
• Track record embedding AI/ML in production systems and portals tied to measurable customer outcomes.
• Strong architectural judgement and operational maturity.
• Confident challenging requirements and explaining trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Exceptional collaborator with cross-functional stakeholders.
