About the Role
~2 min readThe College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accounting Specialist or Senior Accounting Specialist to support the financial and administrative operations in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This is a key support role in a dynamic academic environment and will serve as an expert on all matters pertaining to the financial operations for the School. The position requires knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping, record keeping, and financial forecasting.
Primary responsibilities of the Accounting Specialist include:
- preparing and distributing monthly financial statements
- reconciling financial statements
- preparing and processing PCard and OK Corral purchases
- creating OSU Foundation vouchers and making deposits/transfers to Foundation accounts as needed
- posting/encumbering expenses such as salary, travel, requisitions, and work orders to proper accounts for projection purposes
- preparing and processing cost transfers for transferring material expenses
- providing backup support for human resource functions for the school (including Employment Personnel Action Forms and payroll functions)
- providing assistance and monitoring compliance with OSU policies
- preparing and maintaining all inventory records
- supporting the general functions of the office
This Accounting Specialist works closely with the Administrative Associate and Department Head to support the academic and operational mission of the School. The successful candidate must be able to manage their time effectively, maintain organization of their assignments, and be customer service oriented.
The incumbent must be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds on occasion, when checking in supplies and equipment.
Requirements

Accounting, Bookkeeping, or a related field.

Financial or accounting experience with knowledge of the University accounting systems.

Must be a notary at time of hire, or become a notary within six (6) months of hire.
Demonstrate knowledge of accounting principles. Experience and good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Ability to examine and analyze records for purposes of preparing financial reports. Ability to make independent decisions. Ability to handle confidential matters with tact and work well with others. Will possess good communication and computer skills.
