About the job
We are looking for an energetic and pragmatic Legal Officer to deliver comprehensive legal support across the business, with a primary focus on our German operations and beyond, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing contracts and minimizing legal risks. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a rapidly expanding scale-up in the environmental commodities trading sector – especially on Biomethane and Carbon Markets - where your skills will be essential in enhancing our contract management, due diligence, litigation, and compliance efforts, driving the company's continued growth.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including trading agreements, NDAs, brokerage agreements and service agreements – with a focus on German regulatory frameworks
- Provide legal advice and support specifically relating to German energy law, Biomethane and THG quota regulations and carbon market, monitoring legislative and regulatory developments in Germany and advising on required actions
- Support the legal assessment and implementation of new business ideas, helping to translate strategic initiatives into compliant and actionable legal structures - across the broader markets the company operates in, with a particular focus on German regulatory and legal frameworks
- Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance, including the preparation and maintenance of corporate governance documents
- Support in dispute resolution and coordinate any litigation or arbitration proceedings, including managing communications with external counsel in cross-border matters
- Flexibility to handle ad hoc legal and administrative tasks as needed, supporting evolving business priorities and cross-functional initiatives
About you
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a German university; Master’s degree in Law (LLM) preferred
- Full professional fluency in German (native) and English (native or equivalent) is required
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal professional, preferably with exposure to the energy, environmental commodities or financial sector
- Knowledge of or experience in the Biomethane market and/or carbon markets is a strong advantage
- Strong knowledge of German civil and commercial law, contract law and regulatory compliance is preferred
- Ability to work independently and make sound, well-reasoned legal decisions while maintaining efficiency under pressure
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to navigate diverse stakeholders and shifting priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
