Our client is a leading maritime company in Malta, providing reliable services to the marine industry. They are currently looking for an organised and detail-oriented Ship Chandler to join their team and play a key role in ensuring vessels are fully supplied and ready for operation.
The Ship Chandler is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and coordinating the supply of provisions for vessels, ensuring orders are delivered accurately and on time. This role involves managing procurement, inventory, supplier relationships, cost control, and administrative duties while maintaining high standards of efficiency and organisation.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Plan and purchase vessel provisions well in advance using historical consumption data and market pricing.
- →Coordinate the full provisioning of vessels before departure, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.
- →Source and procure food, beverages, and other vessel supplies from approved suppliers.
- →Manage stock levels, monitor expiry dates, and ensure products are correctly labelled and stored.
- →Process and fulfil supply requests from vessels before departure.
- →Verify supplier invoices, resolve discrepancies, and allocate costs across vessels and departments.
- →Monitor market trends and negotiate with suppliers to obtain competitive pricing.
- →Maintain procurement records and prepare forecasts for future operational requirements.
- →Support the Finance Department with administrative tasks during quieter operational periods.
- →Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Requirements
~1 min read- Previous experience in procurement, storekeeping, ship chandling, or supply chain operations.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience using spreadsheets for forecasting and budget monitoring.
- Strong numerical skills and attention to detail, particularly when verifying invoices and allocating costs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and perform well under pressure.
- Proactive, reliable, and highly organised.
- Experience within the maritime or shipping industry will be considered an advantage.
