We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Wiring Harness 3D Layout Designer to support the design, packaging, routing, and release of vehicle electrical distribution systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing 3D wiring harness layouts using Siemens NX, ensuring compliance with vehicle architecture, packaging constraints, manufacturing requirements, and industry standards. This role requires strong technical expertise in harness routing, component integration, engineering documentation, and cross-functional collaboration throughout the product development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop vehicle wiring harness bundle layouts and wire routing strategies based on vehicle architecture, electrical schematics, and engineering requirements.
- Perform 3D wiring harness routing and packaging using Siemens UG NX (DMU) while ensuring compliance with packaging guidelines, manufacturability, serviceability, and durability requirements.
- Create and maintain accurate 3D harness models, including bundle paths, branch definitions, and retention strategies.
- Select and integrate electrical and mechanical components such as connectors, clips, grommets, coverings, and protective devices based on functional, environmental, and packaging requirements.
- Conduct packaging feasibility studies and resolve vehicle integration challenges through effective design solutions.
- Measure harness lengths and generate accurate design outputs to support manufacturing and supplier deliverables.
- Develop and release 2D harness drawings, installation drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), spool tables, and assembly documentation.
- Support engineering change implementation and maintain design documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, manufacturing, and vehicle packaging engineers to resolve design issues and ensure successful product integration.
- Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, validation activities, production launches, and post-production engineering support.
- Ensure designs comply with customer requirements, industry standards, company design practices, and supplier capabilities.
- Identify and implement cost-effective, robust, and production-ready harness routing solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in automotive or commercial vehicle wiring harness design and packaging.
- Proficiency in Siemens UG NX (DMU) and Electrical Routing applications.
- Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, wiring harness design practices, and packaging requirements.
- Familiarity with BOM creation, installation drawings, and engineering release processes.
