Purpose:

The Plant Attendant is responsible for the safe and efficient handling, storage, transfer, and loading of petroleum products, including tank gauging, RTW loading, valve and pipeline operation, record keeping, housekeeping, incident reporting, and adherence to HSEQ requirements while maintaining accurate operational documentation and supporting overall depot operations.

Principle Accountabilities:

•    Fuel Handling & Storage
  • Load road tank wagons (RTWs) in accordance with approved operating procedures.
  • Gauge storage tanks and accurately record tank measurements and product levels.
  • Open and close valves and pipelines to facilitate safe product transfers and loading operations.
  • Record all metered volumes and verify loaded quantities against delivery documentation.
  • Monitor product movements and report any discrepancies in volumes or inventory.
  • Maintain accurate records of loaded vehicles, truck identification numbers, driver names, and loading documentation.

•     Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) guidelines and company procedures.
  • Follow depot security guidelines and control access to operational areas.
  • Conduct operations in a safe manner to prevent product contamination, spills, leaks, and incidents.
  • Report and respond to spills, leaks, equipment failures, or safety incidents immediately.
  • Ensure compliance with depot operating standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, inspections, and emergency response activities.

•    Quality Control
  • Maintain accurate gauging logs, loading records, and product transfer documentation.
  • Verify product grades and quantities before and during loading operations.
  • Assist with periodic audits, inspections, and inventory reconciliations.
  • Ensure proper handling procedures are followed to maintain product quality and integrity.

•     Equipment
  • Operate meters, pumps, valves, loading arms, and other terminal equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect loading and transfer equipment before use and report defects or abnormalities.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, maintenance requirements, or unsafe conditions to the Facility Supervisor.
  • Assist with routine operational checks of terminal facilities and equipment.

• Documentation & Reporting
  • Complete and maintain accurate operational records, including tank gauging reports, loading logs, meter readings, and vehicle records.
  • Record truck details, driver information, product quantities, and transaction data accurately.
  • Prepare and submit shift reports as required.
  • Immediately report operational irregularities, incidents, inventory discrepancies, and equipment concerns.

•    General Duties
  • Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping standards in the filling shed, loading areas, tank farm, and surrounding depot facilities.
  • Assist with inventory control and stock reconciliation activities.
  • Support operational activities during product receipts, transfers, and dispatches.
  • Cooperate with team members to ensure efficient depot operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facility Supervisor.

Qualification Requirements:

• A sound secondary education with qualification from a technical college or institution.
• 3 to 5 years working in an industrial facility.

Other Competency Requirements:

• Preferably computer literate.
• A practical operator with a proven ability to get things done competently and on time.
• Have mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Able to self-plan and deliver results.
• Demonstrates enthusiasm and an attitude to work well with others in teams.
• Excellent interpersonal relationships.
• HSEQ and Emergency Codes compliance.
