Experienced English teachers, this is your opportunity to help diplomats and technology experts in Benin strengthen their English skills and advance the country’s diplomacy and digital transformation goals.

English language learning is a growing priority for the Government of Benin and is essential for strong U.S.-Benin partnerships. Following the success of the English courses delivered for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2025, additional ministries, including the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Innovation, have requested similar support. Most government officials primarily speak French and are eager to develop English language skills. However, there are few established English language learning resources for adults, and no formal programs within the government.

As an English Education Trainer, you will collaborate with ministry staff to build practical English communication skills. Through interactive lessons, daily conversations, and personalized support, you will help diplomats and technology experts communicate more confidently in English and connect with international professionals in their field.
Bachelor's or master's degree in education, preferably with a focus in curriculum or instruction.
AND
Teaching certification or license with two or more years of relevant experience, including teaching and curriculum development.
This is a four-month assignment with the possibility of extending up to 12 months. During that time, you will live independently in Cotonou within 5 miles of your work site. Your studio or one-bedroom apartment will have access to electricity and running water. Electricity costs are high, so air conditioning may not be available.
Strengthen your English teaching expertise while making an impact in West Africa.
Support Benin’s diplomatic corps and technology professionals to build skills that advance national development.
Grow your professional network as you collaborate with Beninese colleagues, form lasting friendships, and experience the culture of Benin’s capital.
Assess the English proficiency levels and learning needs.
Develop an English curriculum that supports adult learners from novice to advanced proficiency levels.
Design curriculum and lessons focused on English in diplomatic environments and technology and innovation fields, with a focus on artificial intelligence.
Develop engaging, practical lesson plans tailored to the professional needs of diplomats and technology professionals.
Teach English classes and provide individualized language support.
Identify opportunities to strengthen and sustain English language learning programs.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as organizing fitness clubs or an English language movie club.
After a two-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will begin work with Ministry partners, first assessing staff language levels, launching initial lessons, and working with Ministry officials to review and finalize curricula.

Peace Corps/Benin will equip you with French language resources, and you may work with a tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.
