English Teacher

Calling all educators and recent graduates eager to make a difference! Schools in Kosovo are looking to practice their English language skills with a native speaker and develop skills to enable their future success.

Kosovo, a young nation that declared independence in 2008, is working to build a strong future amid economic challenges and high unemployment rates. Education plays a critical role in this effort, yet many schools face limited resources and traditional teaching methods that do not fully prepare students for global opportunities. To address these challenges, there is a need to introduce student-centered methodologies, improve lesson planning, and foster critical thinking skills in classrooms. This work not only enhances language proficiency but also equips students with life skills essential for success in a rapidly changing world.

As an English Teacher, you will collaborate with local educators and school staff to support English language learning and extracurricular activities. Together, you will expand opportunities for youth and women, promote leadership development, and strengthen community ties. Your service will have a lasting impact, helping Kosovo’s vibrant young population unlock their potential and contribute to the country’s growth.

Bachelor's degree in any discipline.

During training, Volunteers will live with host families in small towns or villages (population 500–5,000) and eat all of their meals with their host families. When they move to their permanent site, Volunteers will live in small towns or villages (population 500–5,000) with host families for at least the first three months of their service. Many Volunteers choose to live with host families for longer periods of time to afford them deepen cultural integration and/or due to limited affordable options to live independently. Homes typically have electricity and running water but modest furnishings, and heating can be limited to wood stoves in one room during winter.

Organize activities during school breaks for students, such as clubs or summer camps.
Share American culture and traditions during school events.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as English clubs and drama or art workshops.

As an English Teacher, you will be trained on the national curriculum, student-centered methodologies, and community-led development. Peace Corps Kosovo will teach you Albanian and Serbian to help you comfortably live in and connect with the community.

After the 10 weeks of training, Volunteers are assigned to primary schools (grades 1–5, ages 6–10) or lower secondary schools (grades 6–9, ages 11–14). You will work five days a week, teaching at least 20 hours per week and collaborating with local English teachers on lesson planning and classroom management.
