Ready to apply your community health skills to support communities in becoming more resilient in Cameroon?

Cameroon faces ongoing community health and development challenges, particularly in rural areas where access to quality services, consistent health-seeking behaviors, and reliable water sanitation conditions can be limited. Many communities still experience resource constraints and service delivery gaps. Local nongovernment organizations play an essential role in addressing these disparities and fostering community engagement. Three such organizations—PRIDEPADS Africa, eBase Africa, and the Association for Development Assistance (ASAD)—provide vital health information and community support, yet they face barriers, including limited access to accurate information, constrained staff capacity due to minimal professional development opportunities, and growing donor fatigue. To strengthen their impact, these organizations require targeted guidance to enhance institutional capabilities in program quality, monitoring and evaluation, communications, strategic partnership development, and operational effectiveness.

As a Health Systems Advisor, you will collaborate with the staff at PRIDEPADS Africa, eBase Africa, or ASAD. You’ll lend your expertise to identify capacity-building opportunities and strengthen skills within the community. With your support, the organizations will strengthen their programming and services.

Master of Arts/Master of Science degree in public health, or any social science, with 3-year professional work experience.
AND/OR
Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition, health, nursing or any social science with a minimum of 5 years professional work experience.

Across the country’s East and Center regions, Volunteers typically live in small apartments or simple homes—ranging from one‑room studios and a simple compound house shared with a host family to two‑room apartments. Latrines and outdoor bathing areas are common, though some homes have indoor bathrooms with water-cistern toilets. Water is available nearby, and filters are provided for safe drinking water. Internet may be limited, but basic cell service is generally accessible. Most worksites are within walking distance, but Volunteers may also reach work by motorbike or taxi.

Strengthen your French language skills through daily interactions with counterparts and community members.
Leverage your monitoring and evaluation expertise and partnership‑building skills to drive stronger, more efficient program operations.

Facilitate needs assessments to identify priority challenges and guide targeted actions.
Implement organizational development practices, tools, and resources to improve access to services for target populations.
Support knowledge-sharing activities, including health talks, small group sessions, and interactive learning opportunities.
Plan and support community health and development awareness events.
Strengthen local capacity through trainings, workshops, mentoring, youth clubs, camps, and experience-sharing events.

You may also contribute to additional projects based on community needs and priorities, such as English conversation clubs or tree planting projects.

After a two-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to an urban community where you will collaborate with the staff at a non-government organization to assess the needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.

Peace Corps/Cameroon will equip you with French language resources and you may work with a tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.
